My shell should hopefully be ready for install next week. I ordered it with Yakima tracks, towers, and bars. ARE V series. The rack will be used to hold empty coolers on the way to various long distance hunting trips, and then hopefully heavy coolers on the way back. I'd imagine the weight of the two coolers (light 100 quart Igloo sportsmans, not Yetis etc), ice, and an (hopefully grown ha) boned out elk would be around 200 lbs. I was planning on making my own aluminum cross bars to put in on the Yakima tracks using 3/8" bolts to suck the rack down close to the roof instead of having 4" or so under it.

    Was looking at this one:

That being said, is that simply too much weight to put on top of a camper shell? I've never had one, I am camper shell illiterate. I suppose if the coolers are graced with meat that we would probably put them in the bed of the truck anyway due to the logistics of getting them up top when loaded ha.

It would give us room to not have to be technical with gear storage on the way out anyway. We did 4 guys for 3300 miles one way in my Taco (all 5' 11" 210 lbs + ha) with a hitch rack with a waterproof bag on it for our gear, and coolers with gear in them in the bed. Was a PITA whenever we'd stop to have to unload everything, hence the camper shell.

I'm not sure on the specs for a V series but typically unless it's advertised as weight bearing....you shouldn't put too much up there. I'm in a very similar predicament.....I have a leer100r.....3 guys and all the gear....decided to drag my 5x8 cargo trailer behind us.
