Hey guys! I'm looking into buying a 2011 Tacoma that has a bit done to it already. The mileage is about 51k and the truck is from Canada originally and now sits in New York. I was just hoping to get some opinions on the underside to better understand if the truck is worth purchasing. The current price is about 22k! Thankseveryone for the help!

Theoretically, if this is able to be sanded down and powder coated over, that's all I need to know!

That would be better off than sanding it down and recoating it?

It would protect it good and stop rust. Not sure maybe somebody else can chime in. Maybe rustoleum also

You would have to remove and separate each individual part to powder coat.. including the entire frame if you wanted that done.. in that case no the truck would not be worth it.

Most people just remove rust and treat with por15 or the like.

    No.

They rust from inside to out. Critical area is near the catalytic converters that's where my hole formed. You need to scope the inside of the frame. Good luck

Flush the frame with water let dry and fluid film it all inside and out. That rust looks worse than i think it is. You could wire wheel it all down and put chassis saver on the frame then fluid film it and your good to go.

Doesn't look too bad. Por15 is what you want to use on any rust. Amazing stuff!
I used por15 on a model A I had and it stops rust dead in its tracks.
Hit it with a wire brush really good then por15 it!

WD40 is Water soluable so the first rain storm and it’s gone. I use it to make the wheel wells look new when I wash mine but it only lasts until the first rain.

It doesnt seem too bad OP. Use POR15 or LOCTITE 16-oz Rust Remover Naval Jelly and spray with some rustoleum flat black. Dont sweat the leaf springs , mine are quite rusty as well, but its mostly surface rust

It looks pretty good for a 6-7 year old Truck in that neck of the woods. Buy it clean it up and paint it with some type of rust stop paint and drive the hell out of it.

for 22K, no way I would take that truck. It's not just what you see, but all the frozen fasteners, and hidden areas where rust can form like inside the doors. I know that in some parts of the country, getting a rust free truck is tough, but for a purchase this big I would travel.

The original owner of that truck put zero effort into taking care off the undercarriage.

The rust looks minimal, surface affected no big deal. Low miles but check rest if truck out well. Offer him $20k
