What Service Jack To Buy?

    I previously borrowed my friend's to do the bilstein 5100 upgrade. However, the service jack barely lifted the truck an inch or two, since it's already high clearance. Therefore, i didn't have sufficient room to perform the mod.

    I later used a block of wood, but even on the jack stands the truck wasn't high enough for this mod. i wanted the tires at least 3 inches off the ground, since the mod is going to set the top up about 2 inches!

    how are you guys handling this safely (i.e. without janky improvisons)?

    I didn't measure the height. But I would guess I can get my tires about an inch or two above the ground after I put it on stands. Works fine for me when doing tire roations.
    I have a lift and 265s.

    Take the tires off and you'll recoup a bunch of room. SOP to remove tires for any suspension work.

    High enough to get anything I needed to get done. Did my full suspension last month and did my friends suspension on his tundra last weekend. Got the truck plenty high for jack stands and removing the rear leaf springs.

    okay. i was concerned that i'll install the aal and bilstein's and then the tires won't fit back on, because the truck isn't high enough.

    bilstein set at 1.75, Racho 5000 rear with 4 leaf kit, floor mats, high lift jack, pull hook in hitch, bed rail corner braces, severe duty brake pads and devil horns on the grill....
    A LONG FRAME jack is a must and you want the 2.5 to 3 ton range. I had to buy a low profile, long frame just to change the oil on the WRX. Mine typically last a good 20 years before they fail. I got some good deal from Amazon. The 1.5 ton HF aluminum racing jack is good for your average small car, and that is about it.

    Why don't you just jack using the sliders? Since rotation is front to back right? On my 14 it is.

    I own a harbor freight 2 ton aluminum racing jack and it works just fine getting the wheels off the corner. Or lifting the two front or two rear at the same time... Granted it does not have a ton of travel but it will clear my stock 16" alum wheels + tires with a couple of inches to spare

    I do a 5 tire rotation. And it's just easier for me to get the entire truck on stands to do it.

    I have this one, a 3 ton HF. 70 or 80 bucks on sale. Used it to do my 5100s and UCAs, and to install AAL out back. Worked fine, maxed it out, but all good. Need the 6 ton jackstands though, I have a pair of the 6 ton, and a pair of the 3 ton.

    Do NOT buy a "Michelin" jack. I found one on sale for $179 a couple years ago. They hope you do a name association with Michelin the tire people. I probably cycled it up and down 10 times before if took a krappe. Found out later others have had same experience.....
