    Hey Ya'll

I just bought yet another tacoma. This is a pretty nice, 2009 TRD Off Road six speed with 110,000 now after picking it up in PA and driving home to CO. Although the truck is actually in pretty good shape, I am anxious to get it to as "new" driving condition as possible. It does appear to have been driven kind of hard but it was kept clean, at least. My thoughts so far are to do the following:

    Lube and torque propeller shaft
transmission (supposed to be lifelong but want change it), differential, and transfer fluids
    Fuel injection service
    spark plugs
a general check and torque of chassis and body

So, what are your thoughts? Is this over kill? am I missing anything? What would you do?

    Thanks!

Satoshi, debadged, rear view mirror bracket, tail gate hose clamps, trimmed mud flaps.
Not overkill. I would do the same, as well as:

Change oil and both air filters,
    Flush coolant
How are the brakes? Maybe replace pads and flush.
If it was driven hard, might also be good to change the shocks.

A couple larger scale things I did to my truck before 130K miles were change out the suspension and the brakes. But a couple smaller things you could also do would be to flush brake fluid and inspect the fan belt and pulleys.

Do you have service records from the previous owner?

I would do what has already been mentioned and add:
    - inspect the lower and upper ball joints
    - get an alignment
-get a full detail, interior and exterior wash
    -air filter, cabin filter,
-inspect CV axles and CV boots (not sure if you got 4x4, but if you did)
-Front and rear differential fluids, transfer case fluids
-Lube zerk fittings on drive shafts
-Upgrade to the 4 leaf rear pack if you have the 3 leaf from the factory

Hey thanks everyone. As I mentioned in the original post:

    Lube and torque propeller shaft
transmission (supposed to be lifelong but want change it), differential, and transfer fluids
    Fuel injection service
    spark plugs
a general check and torque of chassis and body

    The addition of:

    fan belt and pulleys
CV axles and CV boots ( I did get the 4x4, V6 6 speed )
    both filters
    lower, upper ball joints
    flush coolant

I do have service records for the truck. They never went too crazy with maintenance but were up to date on oil, recommended services, rotations, new brakes, fresh alignment ( both of which are very obvious which was really really awesome to have fresh since I bought it and immediately drove it almost 2000 miles home ). I will be putting a 3" OME lift with the 886 Heavy Duty coil overs and the heavy duty leaf pack. I addition the upper control arms will be replaced and potentially a new exhaust. Tires will be the good ol' BFGs 285/75 with a new, economic black wheel, 16". IF any of you can recommend a wheel that is very affordable that is like the American Racing branded wheel that is simple black with lugs, nothing fancy, I would appreciate it. Ive never bought wheels for my previous builds. Any thoughts on rack and pinion replacement ? I feel like it may need to be done in the near future but I would hire someone for the work which means bigger cost. Well if you guys think of anything else please share. I will do about half of this myself and let the local shop do the rest.

Thanks for all of the input.

The transmission IS NOT life long fluid. It should be changed around 30k miles. 30k miles is about when all the diffs and transfer cases need changed.

A little risky buying a 6 year old truck from a salt state. Better look around that underside

volks71, there is some rust, totally. I plan on re doing my suspension as I've mentioned with the 3'' OME along with the leaf pack from them as well. Once I rip the old suspension, I am going to replace a few rusty things and then line X the entire frame and other non moving parts. Ive seen a thread here where some folks have done it and it looks great. Also seems like a good way to blast the rust and to keep it from getting any worse down the road. Someone did line X their brand new OME suspension when they did their frame which I really wasn't a fan of. Seems like moving parts should be left alone. In the defense of the truck I just bought; It came from the original owner, a farmer. He claims to have kept the truck in one of his barns when not in use and since he's a farmer, the taco was his towny car and the other rigs on the property were obviously his work trucks. The roads from which he accessed town and home were almost ALL GRAVEL which was a surprise to me (I drove through all of this). These facts did minimize my salty concerns a bit and at a final price of 14k for an 09 TRD Off Road V6 6 speed access cab with 108,000, I couldn't see myself doing much better than this. The paint, interior and condition of the head lights (crystal clear plastic) over all made me think that he really must have kept it in the barn everyday. It looked amazing in the photos and aside from a light layer of dust on the dash when I picked it up, it was near perfect. So far I have detailed the interior, shampooed the seats and will begin checking off some of the items listed earlier in the thread. Once all of this is done I will line X my flares, topper, grill, frame and bumper, install OME 3" 886 HD and HD leaf pack, new UCAs, BFG AT's @ 285/75 on stock wheel, 1.25 spacers, cat back exhaust with a chop, ARB fog bumper and at the very end, my ARB compressor. I have a beautifully built platform that friction fits in the back of the 09-11 access cabs. I built it along with boxes to match the wood platform and they slide underneath it. This is my pit bull's trip bed and she loves it back there. I think it may be one of my prized possessions due to the craftsmanship of it and how easy it is to put in or take out. Ill post some pics of that soon for others' inspiration needs.
