Hey gang, I’m new to TW but figured I should join since I just purchased a 2016 Tacoma. I had a 2002 Tacoma awhile back that I loved- minus the rust I had to get repaired/welded.

Anyway, I’m posting because the used 3rd generation I bought was missing the antenna on the top, which I failed to notice during examination. I’m looking to find out what (affordable) antenna I can buy that will fit on the 3rd gen?

    Please, and thank you.

Yeah, I didn’t notice it until after purchase. My fault I guess for not inspecting the top.
If I can find an antenna and buff out some of the scratch I’ll be ok with it.

Jeez, who the hell sold you that crap? That's more damage than an antenna! Yeah, you should have inspected it, but whoever knowingly sold it this was is a shyster and needs his balls kicked.

Yeah my fault for not inspecting but dealership could’ve made it right at little cost I’d imagine. When I first found definitely wanted to kick someone’s balls ⚽️ haha

I found a couple Of sites that have them and they say it fits, however they look kind of cheap and cost around $20. Hoping to find something that looks decent at least but also want to get it on before the snow falls

I'd go with OEM, but I'd also worry that since there's significant damage, it won't seal properly.

The Sequoia I bought was damaged, and I didn't notice it, but not near that bad. I could tell it had leaking issues from water stains in the interior, very faint, but I could find them after I realized the above repaired damage. My buddy that's a dealer tech (not Toyota) says this is common from drive through car washes,,,,, reason number 5,682 for me not use them.

Dentless repair, then replace the shark fin.

Check under the weather stripping on the roof. If you see holes or holes that were filled, my bet is someone installed a rack, hit the antenna and dented the roof, then proceeded to remove the antenna after realizing they had no clearance.

EDIT: Also, if you see screw holes, find a way to seal it with tape or silicone, those holes go right to the cab and will leak water if not sealed.

I don't think that's the right one for a Tacoma. It looks like it's an XM onliy antenna for a Sequoia.

This is what I show for that part,

    https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toyota~antenna~assy~naviga~86860-04010.html

At least in my 2019, the antenna seems to be for AM/FM/GPS/XM. The 2016 seems to be different and I'm not sure it includes GPS.

You're right, the one I posted was for a Sequoia. I got the right years, not the right vehicle, thanks google.

    That's for a 2015.

The 16-19 antenna looks to be part number 8630004090

@Anderson also sells a low profile replacement at https://totallyradproducts.com/

    Thanks for the tag!

And yes, the 16-19 antenna is something that can be easily found at your local auto dismantler for around a hundred bucks or so.

    @hoarder23

those look pretty good and a fair price range. I think I’ll purchase this after getting a little more feedback and do the rest of the inspecting and sealing before I install.

    cheers

So do you think I should look local for one of these?
