Yeah it happens once a month unless you get scheduled for overtime. Sometimes I get bored with that much time off. I'm hoping to get a bay boat soon to help me pass the time away. :D

If I'm that bored I usually try to catch up on some gaming, I'm pretty far behind on some franchises lol. I don't have money for a boat :( I might not even have money to mod this truck I'm getting until it's paid off, I hope I do though lol. Rookie cop salary is a killer, better than my old lame retail jobs though.

24 on 48 off so every third day. If I take overtime it is a little over $1000 per shift but I've got to where I hate to be gone away from home 48 hours at a time. I already miss a third of my family's life and I have never heard of anyone laying on their death bead saying "man.... wish I would have worked more". My life is worth more than money at this point.

Couldn't said it any better! OT is good sometimes but family is more important. I work with guys that have over 600 hrs as of today. I don't mind working it when they schedule me, which is a fair share every year, but I don't sign up on the volunteer list. I'm at around 200 hrs.

Finally someone who gets it... $1,000/24=$41.67hr. Even if you excluded sleep time of 8hr at $1,000/(24-8)=$62.50hr.

Durning high school when my buddies and I would be talking about how "we" were going to do things there was always one old guy (a buddies dad) that reminded us, "if you're not doing it in 40 hours you're doing it wrong". From my own parents I was taught to think in terms of what or how many hours of my life I would give in exchange for something I wanted. So buying a acme widget that was $100 and I brought home $1 a day I'd being exchanging 800 hours of my life for the widget or X% of that year.

I don't do shift work any more, but I recall in the Air Force we did 3 second shifts/24 hr break/ 3 third shifts/ 3 days off. Man if that didn't screw with your body clock.

Have a pretty good gig at the moment working 5-2 10hr days.

But I was most productive working swing shift 4 on 3 off, 3pm to 3am... no bosses around.

i currently work mon-friday 7-5. easy schedule. but i'm getting a promotion so i'll be working mon-frid 10 hr shifts and most of that time at least 2-3 hrs i'm driving and i get 10 hrs of OT every week and i get gas paid, meals paid, hotel paid, and i get a little extra for cell phone. and weekends and holidays off. i can't ask for a better job.

oh and any points i accrue from using the hotels are mine to use. so when i get enough, i'm going to disneyland and staying in a hotel for free. schweet.

DuPont schedule gives you 7 in a row off as well. Basically we work 2 weeks and are off 2 weeks each month. Love it for shift work.
