I am currently looking to possible purchase a second gen and sell my 3rd gen. The truck I am looking at has 22k miles, looks very clean. 2 owner truck, Texas truck. What should I be looking out for on this generation of truck?

Rust, frame damage, the usual suspects. 22k miles? That's awesome! 2013 is my favorite of the 2.5 gens. Good luck!

Yes it's very low mileage, dealer maintained. It does show a minor damage in the front from 2015, the truck looks flawless. It has lived in TX it's whole life.

Also just curious what to look for. I'm helping my sister buy a Tacoma because she loves the 2007 AC 4x4 I just bought my son. We found a 2011/4 dr/4x4/5 ft bed/auto/4.0 V6 and new frame with 123K on it. Seems legit and car fax is clean. Anything else I should look for besides the normal stuff. Any more help would be great. Have a day

Run the VIN thru the Toyota VIN decoder [think you have to make a free account these days to use this.. ] so you know how it was optioned originally.
Every now and again, around TW, someone pops up and [usually] thought they were buying an OR and then found out later it did not have a locker/was a sport instead..

I am also a big fan of pre/purchase inspections - find a local shop that works on Tacos and take it over before you buy it, pay them like 50-60$ and have them go thru it with you/show you any potential issues/foreseeable problems/upcoming costs.
I took one in + the one I bought and I learned alot from the mechanics each time - -

I have a 2013, and the ONLY issue I have had is the blower motor relay. IF it has TRULY been in TX its whole life, the other big issue is frame rot, but you wouldnt have to worry about that. I'd still crawl under it and look closely at the frame. Otherwise...its been a great truck for me! Oh, and once, yep, you'll buy it if its still available (cause its the right thing to do), do the uni-filter mod just for peace of mind.

Make sure 4hi and 4lo engage. Check all the little things for function; horn, window controls, HVAC, turn signals, indicator lights, door locks, etc.

Ended up passing on the truck, Dealership is probably the worst one I've had to deal with, not only is their staff unprofessional and do not even call or text back. They tried to offer 32k for my 2020 TRD off-road wiith 11k miles, clean carfax, all dealer maintenance. Told them to fly a kite. Saw the ad for the truck today, they increased the price on it by 4k. If anyone is looking to buy from Alamo Toyota in San Antonio, don't just walk away, run away.
