This times 1000. I never have to use my truck to drive with friends anywhere, but I do still help folks move crap. Honestly regular cab looks cool, but its uncomfortable for long rides. I just rent cars for road trips now anyway, but my daily commute is 50 mins one way.

You don't buy a truck for its fucking fenders!
    2.5" lift w/35's
Not if you have carseats. You need the double cab to fit a carseat

Reg Cabs are unique for one reason and most like myself who prefer reg cab 6" beds is all I have ever owned since about 1970 and never wanted a family truckster type cab . Normally biggest motor and smallest truck. Not much choice of engines in these little trucks but for Off road Its good enough

32K is a nice budget to work with

I say don't buy anything that will make you feel short changed later. That'll just cut into you're enjoyment of the vehicle.
I personally wouldn't buy anything too small or too under powered. If you're going to keep the truck for a long time, you may not need it now. But who knows what you're circumstances will be a few years down the road.

I would get a access cab 2nd gen....if not the access cab the double cab. getting a regular cab limits your future options if you ever get big dogs or kids.

2015 double cab hands down. with that budget you can even buy something with some mods, or bone stock and do the upgrades how you want to do it.

    Good luck with the hunt!

that truck is a beast. but I would buy that if I had a 2nd vehicle. After owning vehicles with crazy suspension and tube work, a 2nd vehicle was a must, because they do require downtime. Something will eventually need to be fixed or upgraded. And I couldn't sacrifice being without a vehicle on days and days

I hate being the passenger in another vehicle, especially if I end up in the back. Best way to make sure that never happens is to take my truck.

    Like, so many.
For that budget, why not look at a 3rd gen? Way more safety features.

    I drive a Miata.

I tend to agree with both these guys. This is a cool truck, but no bueno for a first truck. Heavy mods are heavy on maintenance and your wallet. If you aren't prepared to diagnose and wrench and get to work without it, the truck will own you.

I'd start conservatively, like way conservatively. I'd buy a clean stock with some nice tires. Maybe +1 size tires, but if it were me I'd start with stock size. Learn what the truck can do before building it to do what you want it to do, would be my humble suggestion.
