Surprising myou husband with his first Tacoma on Saturday . It is a 2017 4x4 double cab off road . It just got shipped and arrived at the dealership. What are some important things I should check for when doing the walk around with the dealership ? It has the JBL audio moon roof , Predator steps, black grill , black overlays , bed cover etc .

I want to know if anyone has had any past experience with something being wrong with their truck that they didn't realize until later !

Just here to say if it doesn't work out with him, I'm available. :D Great looking truck! I'll let the new buyers chime in...I haven't bought a "new" vehicle in many, many moons. Good luck!

Scratches, inside or out. I know that's a lot of surface area to cover, but it's something I had to go back for and never really got fully taken care of. Got some free floor mats out of it though :)

Maybe take it for a drive.

Have them check transmission fluid level. They will need to do that before you come in since it takes a while.

Since your salesman has been working with you knowing this is a gift I would book some time with him / her to go over the invoice with them. Literally go over your list line by line. Have both of you initial each and every item.

I don't know what more to suggest. I have never given or received a $40g gift before.

    .
Do a very close inspection on interior, outside fit-finish, glass scratches & paint in daylight on a non-rainy day <--- Important

Wash truck as soon as possible at home and double check for problems.

Complete driving test is a good idea too ... good luck

PS ... Yes ... I usually find problems later that I miss too.

Don't let them detail it. Dealerships are notorious for damaging paint. Tell them you want a tank of gas. Everything else will be covered under warranty. And just because it's a TRD. Don't drive it like you stole it. Let it break in. Oh yeah, welcome to the forum

Nice truck. Great options. I love the JBL stereo. Pair your phone and set up the Pandora or other internet radio. I had a problem with the music "digitizing" in Bluetooth mode. Also, see if you can get a walk through on the control head APPS from someone knowledgeable. I'm sure I don't utilize all the tech on the control head.

Seriously... I can get a weather map with rain/ snow radar.

...^^^... X 100 .... I have several new vehicles scratched by the new vehicle detailers ... glass scratches are the worst.

I NEVER allow a dealer to detail my new vehicle.

Check alignment, fluid levels, scratches in the paint, all interior switches work and GPS is tracking, if you got that option, and make sure the paperwork is correct, like payment amount and due date as well as dealership options like free lifetime oil changes and loaner car if there is a recall.

They have a checklist that they go over with you. They will give you a tutorial on the tech stuff and set up the blue tooth smart phone link up, so bring your cell phone.

Other than that, when you get it home make sure to check under the hood to make sure that the oil cap is on securely and check the oil dipstick to see if it has oil. Your husband might like doing that and checking all fluid levels.

Here's what a guy's thought process is when he gets a new car:

    1. "I think I got a new car!"
    2. "I actually got a new car!"
    3. He'll want to explore the new interior from front to back.
    4. Then he'll dink around with the tech stuff.
    5. Then he'll find a good music channel.
    6. Then he'll want to take it around for a drive.
    7. Then he'll want to look under the hood and do all the stuff I noted earlier.
    8. Then he'll want to read the manuals (and probably all dealership paperwork).
    9. Steps 1-8 can take several days to get through and may be revisited.
    10. Then he'll want to wash it.
    11. Then he'll want a picture of you with the car (please note that this step can occur as step 1 as well).
    12. Then he'll want a picture of you in a bathing suit next to the car. If you are like my wife, you'll probably say "no". Then he'll say "it's just for me, I won't show it to anyone else". :D

Check the engine oil level if you like then start the engine, turn on the headlights and hazard lights and do a walk around to make sure everything works and listen for unusual noises then roll it out

Does it matter if it doesn't still have the plastic on it? I am not sure if they took it off or what. I have never bought a new car but I read that some people said something about the plastic?

My dealership wadded up all the plastic and stuffed it in my center console...along with the railway invoice sheet thing. It's nice to have because that sheet will list stuff like undercoating from the factory before it left the factory.

Make sure you get the window sticker thingy that lists the MSRP and all the features. It's nice to have that. I keep that in a plastic sheet protector in a binder of my Tacoma stuff.

I called and told them I do not want the car detailed. Since I am not getting it detailed , when I get home is there any type of wax or protectant I should put on it when I wash it ? I am not really sure the proper steps to take. I looked online and there was alot of conflicting information .
