Things a 5 lug are good for.
Hauling light loads. A few sheets of plywood and a few 2x4s, a mattress and boxspring, a few bags of mulch, lawnmower and leaf blower, hauling your dirtbike to the track, all while getting good gas mileage.

Things a 5 lug are not good for.
Hauling a heavy load. Towing a trailer larger than 4x8. Going offroad. Making the girls say, “Oh! Nice truck. Will you make me breakfast tomorrow morning?”

At least that 3rd Gen's got bottom torque now.
    jk...

@OP I'd keep it the way it is. Clean it up, put new wheels if you want, and enjoy it. Welcome to the Forum!

The 5 lug has its limitations. Which will dictate what you can reasonably do to the truck. But years ago most trucks were 2wd! So it's not completely a bad thing.
You got it from your dad as your first vehicle. So I'd say that you maintain and enjoy it. My first puckup was a 2wd S-10. Sure it had its limitations but l still loved it. I didn't care for one second that it wasn't 4wd.
You said that you mostly want to use it for driving it on the road, with some offroad. ALL Terrain tires will help a bit.
"Traegermaster" and "whatstcp" gave you some great advice. So did some others that actually wanted to help you out.
Just enjoy your truck for what it is. I wish my first vehicle was a pickup.

Just watched the Top gear guys going through the jungle with 2wd cars, your truck will go down any forest service road, most trips don’t require 4wd if you do some planning.
Growing up in the country we were taking cars through fields and backroads no problem.

Welcome to TW OP. We were maybe a little harsh but not intentionally. Just trying to educate. You are a good sport and were truly looking for advice. Many people come on here asking questions but already have their mind made up. If they don’t get the answers they want they get all pissy. You listened and accepted some of our wisdom. Good job vikky777.
You are truly fortunate to have a Taco truck as your first vehicle. Take care of it, maintain it properly and it will give you many years and many miles of dependable service. (Wish my first vehicle had been a taco instead of the pos I had)

Haha thanks man my trucks at about 230k miles and still runs perfectly I love my truck and I think I’d definitely want to buy a newer taco in the future. Other than that all the advice I’ve received was great even if it was a little harsh I get that everyone is just tryna help out!
