I have a stock 99 tacoma 4x4 xcab. What's the first upgrade/part I should do to it? I already have tires and wheels being shipped. I also have a 18" light bar and 2 cubes that I don't know where to put.

o_O Soooo . . . you order a bunch of expensive parts, THEN ask total strangers what mods you should do.

    You've got it backwards.

I think what you plan to do with your truck dictates how you should upgrade.

Is budget a factor? Are you worried about what others think of you? Do you want to be a cool kid?

If you answered "yes" to the last two questions, then get the Kings. If you answered "yes" to the first question, then you'll have to suffer the humility of having Bilstein or OME shocks like the rest of us losers.

All joking aside, there is a $hit-ton of info on this site and lots of great trucks. Figure out what you plan to do with your truck, visualize what you want it to look like, and upgrade accordingly.

    lol.

didn't get the Kings to be cool, I already was. ;) j/k.

I just knew I would want to upgrade later, I know me and all the shit I've purchased in the past (sports cars and upgrades). Finally learned: buy once, cry once. just MHO.

First thing you need to do is familiarize yourself with all of the "my truck is better than a third gen" jokes, rants, comments, insults, etc.
Second thing is to drive the truck for a while and figure out what you want to do with it.
I've had my truck for over a year now, it's a daily driver, and at first I wanted to mod the heck out of it because I go off road a few times a month and mods look cool. The more I drive it, the more I realize that I don't need mods. Not modding saves me time and money, which means I have more time to hit the trails, go camping, etc.

thanks Jason, appreciate it. those Demello rock crusher sliders were "an adventure" to get, ship and install. worth the hassle but damn, was not easy.

I think a little part of all of us wants to be the cool kid. It's the extent to which you let that inner cool kid make decisions about what you do to your truck that can cause problems. The struggle is absolutely real. If I miss a mortgage payment because I bought bumpers, I have a problem.

Brakes! I'm a huge fan of making things more reliable before making it more fun. Boring I know, but when your shiny new bumpers and winch weigh you down and some ass hat in a lowered 1984 civic with no insurance pulls out in traffic and cuts you off, it'll be your brakes that save the day.

After that though, the fun begins. Try and calculate what else you want to add and pick your suspension after that, that way you know what weight you have to suspend and it should drive smooth yet robust.

Is this going to be a weekend trail runner or a daily driver, or both?
