    I traded my 2016 sr5 for a 2017 sr5 4x4 after 1year of owning the 2016. Very happy with the 4x4!!

I went in with a nail in the sidewall of my tire... I have tire warranty... But they had to order the tire... Instead of wait 1 day for a new tire i just got a new truck lol

During the trade in i also find out my truck Was part of the huge recall for leaking diffs... Dodged that bullet...

This place is just a few miles from my house... I have been stuck 3 times in the non 4x4 truck... Not once yet with 4x4...

    I say do it!!

I like the 4x4 because I can shoot past chain control to my local ski resort!

    I don't actually use the 4x4 but it's a requirement to have.

I do plan on actually wheeling my truck but for almost 97.5% of the time I'm in 2 wheel drive. So...

    Good luck OP!

Here in the Sierras depending on conditions (snow) the caltrans requires 4x4 and/or chains depending on the car and tires etc.

Trade! I live in the flatlands of Texas but STILL have used my 4x4. As someone mentioned, seriously consider a manual transmission. Plus, that 4x4 will open up opportunities that perhaps the 2x could not, like having fun on those offroad mountain passes in Colorado! I love the ability to get to places where the trailers and RVs can't go. Camping in the boonies can be fantastic.

I thought of that after I'd already posted. Good catch.

4x4 will increase the value of a truck when you trade it in and it is not something you paid for in your 4x2. In your case I would not hesitate if I could "afford" it. Not usually necessary in the real world though.

Also, OP, I didn't read the entire thread well, but I remember you mentioning you put a lot into your 2x, but you didn't mention what. Can all of what you did be removed and put in a similar-year 4x? That way, you won't be stuck with the same expenses in the 4x?

That's what I did. After 8 months with a 2016 Tacoma, transmission TSBs, etc. I test drove a Ridgeline and traded in my Tacoma. I didn't come here to stir up a debate regarding Tacoma vs. Ridgeline. I just happened to check back in to see what Taco owners were saying these days. Not good to see some of the same old complaints about transmission, and now the rear differential recall.

Some one likely got a good deal on my Tacoma, with only 4500 miles, it looked like new. My avatar shows my former Taco. Glad to hear many Taco owners are happy with their rigs. I was one of those who realized I really didn't need that much of a truck again. Best regards to all.

I'm hoping that my Taco survives with as little maintenance as the '05 Ranger it replaced. Only major probs were replacing front left wheel hub, alternator and shocks. Normal wear replacements were done. 132,000 miles.

That's terrible advice. lol I will say everybody is different and I'm sure a lot of people will buy the Ridgeline and be happy with it. I like all trucks, at this time in my life I own a Tacoma, couple of years down the road who knows.

I was originally going to buy a 4x2 but my buddies kept telling me that I'd regret it. So I changed my mind and spent the extra $3k and got the 4x4. I had never owned a truck let alone been off-road in one. I have taken it out on the trails once (over a 3 day weekend) so far and am glad that I went with the 4x4. Had a blast and plan on taking a lot more trips off road with it in the future. Go 4x4, you may never use it.....then again you might. You'll get the money back if you sell or trade it.
