If you have a decent budget to work with, I would look for a southern vehicle to avoid dealing with rust then fly down and drive it back. You can even enlist local TW brothers and sisters on here to check it out for you.

If I were shopping used, No way in hell I would ever even consider a Tacoma that was past it's in service date in relation to the 12 yr frame campaign. Period. Too many horror stories where a new (used) owner missed a frame replacement "by that much". Toyota sticks to their guns on this, not negotiable. Be diligent, when it comes to this, or possibly get burnt....
I was lucky, my '08 just made it under the wire. Frame replaced when the tech found a thumb-nail sized hole on a cab mount, not seen without a mirror.
Local independent & myself had previously did a vigorous inspection and deemed it very good shape, way above average for an almost 12yr old truck at the time.

    2005 for 18.8? Wow that’s a lot. You can find a 2012-2013 for that. I paid 20, 23 out the door July 2019 for my 2013 with 90k miles

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
Looking close, whacking with a ball peen and peering in the boxed areas with a borescope are must do's on any salt country truck. Remember they also rust from the inside out, so glancing at flaking is betting against Jimmy the Greek

$18.8K? Holy crap! As I was reading about it, I thought, “OK, that’s a $1K parts rig”. Then I got to the price and I was shocked! Rust+ accident+ ‘05 problems= junk. I would be willing to bet the tire wear is a result of a bent frame from the accident and the alignment can’t be set up right.

For $18K, you better be able to find a really nice ‘11 or ‘13.

Hey can you tell me a little more about that frame replacement thing? I've heard bits and pieces but would like to know more in case I find myself with something that needs it.

Doesn't seem so around here (Salt Lake), at least not with a clean title. And I'm hesitant to look at anything else.

I agree with the 32 people who say to keep looking. Expand your search radius and definitly find one that has not been in an accident.
