Like the title states I'm curious what brake master cylinders were used in first gen tacoma's. I always see it stated online that they came with 1" bore from the factory but I've owned my truck since new and it had a 13/16 MC. Rockauto is also showing a 13/16 MC for both a 2003 tacoma and a 2003 tundra.

It should be stamped on all oem and most aftermarket master cylinders

I just looked up a 95 tacoma and it does indeed have a 1" bore master cylinder for both abs and non-abs models. Its looks like the older style 4 bolt mounting flange though.

Did you look up 95.5 Tacoma or 95 Toyota pick up?

Definitly Tacoma. It appears that the 4 bolt 1" master was used in v6 4wd models until around 2001. It also doesn't seem to matter wether you have abs or not. Im curious about what changed to warrant such a smaller master cylinder to be used in the later model trucks

I wonder if the early tacoma's with the bigger master cylinder still have that funky pedal linkage with the 2nd pivoting arm coming up from the bottom. Maybe that increases the throw of the pedal to make up for less fluid being moved???

Not sure but I thought there where two sizes, the early Tacoma was smaller and later Tacoma was larger

So early Tacoma’s had no brake booster? Or not as big of one? I know mine was only a single diaphragm. I changed to the older 4Runner dual diaphragm brake booster When I SASed so I could take advantage of all the different sized master cylinders available with the 4 bolt mounting flange.

The master cylinder are different is what I believe, but not 100 percent sure

Black Dog was right. The vacuum brake booster went from a 247.14mm diaphragm to a 272.67mm diaphragm the same time the master cylinders changed. But now I'm curious if the 4runner dual diaphragm brake booster has more or less power then the big single diaphragm tacoma brake booster??? Time to find a engineer I guess

Long ago brake master cylinders were short travel big bore single line with 4 branch lines, 1 for each wheel cyl.
As tech know grew so did brake complexity to the point where we have multi port variable flow and boost assist quad ABS.
Works great but a pain in the rear unless you keep clean fluid and LSBPV covered in grease and Saran wrapped.
That's all I have to say bout that.

    :duh:

Edit: grease and Saran wrap only applies to Snow States and real 4x4ing
Desert dwellers, Mall crawlers and Low Riders excluded.
