What does preload have to do with ride quality? Spring rate is unchanged by preload.

Does anyone else find it insanely amusing that so many people know exactly what they want way before they even think about what they need or what it might take to accomplish it? That seems so strange and backwards to me.

This thing is like a porn star. I don’t want one to call my own, but wouldn’t turn down a rough and dirty romp with it either.

So as a fairly new taco owner myself, I would recommend the 4 inch between the two, but you did not state what size tire you wanted. Assuming a 33 inch tire a 4 inch lift is near perfect. If you are going to 35 or 37 you will need more lift or cutting into the body mounts.

Also, since you plan on towing with it, the gearing on these trucks is barely acceptable on stock tire sizes. Moving up to a 33 inch and using it for towing, I would fully recommend changing out stock gearing for 4.88 or 5.13's. That won't be cheap, but likely necessary. So consider the overall cost before you move up in height.

I myself am going with a 2.5 to 3" suspension lift and 33 inch tires, plus 4.88 gears and am not towing anything.

Holy smokes! How’s the gas mileage with a lift like that?

It's not about having a clue, but rather realizing that big lifts are generally pointless.

Ride quality aside, why lift that high?

Because some people think its cool. Just like they think low profile tires and super wide rims is cool. Its literally a thing on IG and a ton of people do it. I think it looks terrible, but a lot of people don't

As the guy who responded to your post said, it’s because “they think it looks cool”. For most, long gone are the days of doing things for a specific function or purpose other than looking cool, which i agree is completely pointless. But they think it looks cool, which is all that matters to them. Now the thing to remember is that thinking probably isn’t this group of peoples specialty, & that’s cool with me. Plus, if it weren’t for people doing ignorantly pointless things, we wouldn’t have anyone to laugh at... & that’s just my pointless point of view. :D

I suppose there's really nothing wrong with nonfunctional modifications if that's what people like. Unless, of course, those modifications make the vehicle unsafe.

Some of my mods aren't really necessary, either. It just seems like that much lift would make the handling a bit sketchy.

That said, I'm lifted 2.5/1.5" and mine handles better than stock (feels better to me at least).

I do think that much lift looks weird with such small tires, though.

Just get the TRD lift kit and be done with it.
