It depends how much of a heavy hitter you are .
I have one 10 on the passenger side and it sounds really good .
Mr marv makes good stuff to put your own sub . JL Audio makes some nice stuff also
    I have a 4 door
Extended cab if you don’t mind using one side on the floor a nice regular box sealed with a good sub works fine
But again if you want serious bass then sky is the limit

If you go with JL audio they actually make a self powered 8 that will fit in the cubby.Or you can get a stealth box from them. If you do the stealth box you need an amp. The first one you don’t .The other way is to get a pre made or custom box and then put your own sub and amp . Anther option is to look into oem audio . They have a speaker system for our trucks that is plug and play

I've got an 8" underseat Powered Sub that kicks pretty good a$$. Spliced from my rear speakers, behind the HU.

Pretty impressed how much bass I got from so little space.

I have a single 12" behind the seat of my DCSB. If I had to do it all over I would have went with a single 10".

10 ‘s are nice because they produce tighter bass than a 12 sometimes. My last truck extended cab, I had two 10’s with a Alpine amp set up at 2 ohms about 600 watts and it was pretty impressive. Polk separates up front and 6 in coax in rear . Probably one of the cleanest systems I’ve owned in a long time . Not super loud but really clean and tight.
