I have a 2011 Tacoma crew cab. I am looking at a leveling kit that has 2.5" in the front and 1.25" in the back. Tthe installation guys who don't have experience with Tacomas said the lift recommends tires sized 275 and below to avoid rubbing. I am trying to confirm if anyone else has installed 285/70/17 on a 2.5" leveling kit. The tire I am looking at is the BFG KO2. Trying to decide if I need to downsize to the 275/70/17 or if I can go bigger with the 285/70/17. Does anyone have this setup? Thanks!

    I have 285's on a 3" kit and I rub........

It is all about how and where you drive.

I have 285s and a 2 inch lift. Rub a dub dub. Trimmed enough to help in mall crawler mode, but I'll need a CMC for sure before I can hit anymore trails.

this would mainly be road and hwy, but I take it light off-roading/trails when camping in the summer months. This is my first time adding aftermarket tires/lift. When you say it rubs, is it when turning sharply or in any turn? or do you mean when having larger bumps/drops you are driving over? would you recommend 285s on that 2.5" kit or go with the 275s?

I had to trim slightly after getting them installed just to get into the driveway or into parking lots at full lock.

I have trimmed flares, beatin the pinch weld, removed the fender liners completely, did a CMC and I still rub when I stuff on trails.

If you don't want to trim and cut, 265's
If you want to slightly trim and cut 275's
If zero fucks are given 315's+ :headbang:

I’ve read it on a few other threads that the lift doesn’t really solve the rubbing issue. 285’s and above will rub on the cab mount usually on full turn lock, and for sure when off roading. There are a few that say that they don’t deal with any rubbing, but the majority do.

If you look at other tire brands you could get away without rubbing. The open country 285/70 is fine for me with no rubbing unless I’m on a rough mall road

I run 285/70r17 Nitto Exos with 2.5" lift with very very very little rubbing. The aftermarket front bumper helps alot though!

run the 285.... you'll need to do a Cab Mount Chop and some minor plastic trimming.

    also, search next time.

The lift does not change the path the wheel takes when the suspension cycles so it is going to rub. Those that claim to have no rub with no CMC please give me your keys and have a seat in the passenger side of your vehicle, if I cannot get the tire to rub between my house and the mall I'll buy you a Cinnabon.

With proper offset on the wheels and proper trimming or just running a clearance bumper there is very minimal rubbing. Unless you try to flex on a 2ft rock like you would probably try to do. It is all in the measurements and geometry of the truck. Every truck is built different, no 2 are the same

Wow your 1” in the back was enough to make it level? Or did you want the front to be higher?

So no rubbing on the frame when you turn the wheel to lock and back up out of a driveway? If it doesn't rub, what offset are you running and what are your alignment specs?
