At or below the speed limit; about 55-60 mp/h, but if it's a two lane highway, I'll speed up, so I'm not going to be a rolling traffic block.

I consciously try and leave early for trips and travel during slower traffic times. I'm at a point where driving slow/ at the speed limit (but not blocking traffic) is just so damn relaxing. I commute by bicycle most of the time, so really relish being carted around out of the elements, with a sound system and heat or A/C.

Driving to me is one of the greatest pleasures and I find it relaxing. Why would I want to get it over with? It's a rolling psychiatrists booth.

I used to drive like a hooligan, but realized that I wasn't getting anywhere faster, it was hard on the car, it cost a lot of money for gas, and I was frazzled when I arrived.

I was a commercial driver (still hold my endorsement), and when I worked at a company that had a fleet of vehicles, some of the vans with 200,000kms on them drove better than those with 30,000kms. It all had too do with the driver

I HATE rushing. This is when "accidents" happen and injuries occur.
Ain't nobody got time for that.

My province has a mandatory vehicle impoundment if you are caught at 25mph or more over the speed limit. You are walking home and without a car for a week, plus a ticket and points on your license. Suits me fine.

Interesting fact is that in Canada, road fatalities per 100,000 inhabitants per year is about 40% of what it is in the USA.
In Britain, it is 25% as many fatalities as the USA.
Having lived/ driven in all 3, the British system and attitude towards driving is the best. Their speed limits are higher than Canada, and were faster than the US, but people are focused on actually driving.

Change the stats to casualties per billion miles driven, Britain is still 50% below the USA.

    Truly, YMMV.

You're not going to damage the motor by driving at high rpms. I cruise at 3250 @ 75mph. I have the 2.7 but still wouldn't be worried with the 3.4. Drive it as fast as what feels safe.

Like 10 miles from me. There's another light like 600 feet ahead of that one. The flatbed driver wasn't paying attention at all.

Interstate speed limits here are usually 70. People seem to be averaging 80. I try to go with the traffic flow. Though, I get passed like I'm sitting still at 80.

With the new tires and wheels, my 99 does like to roll at 80. It can keep up with the other traffic. When I first got it and it didn't have a skid plate, I could feel turbulence under the truck that made it a bit scary to drive at high speed. Then I got a skid plate from @22REthan and that really helped the aerodynamics and reduced under vehicle turbulence at high speed.

Do stock Tacoma speedometers typically show fewer miles per hour than they are actually moving?

The reason I ask is I've seen Honda speedometers show 60 MPH when they are actually moving 55 -- that was until they got into a class action lawsuit because it rolls up the odometer mileage prematurely.

My tire size compared to original should be showing a speedometer error at 80 MPH when I'm actually moving 85. That would be unless there was already an adjustment from the factory.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.

Wow, some else drives near the speed limit like I do! I didn't think there was such a person. I agree with everything quoted except, even on two lanes I'm at the limit. Others can pass if need be. I'm courteous to them. I've had my share of performance cars. There is a place for speed but, not on the public streets. Dang, must be getting old, I sound like my dad.

i think it was about 2oo1/2oo2 period where I was at a wedding party comparing vehicles with the bride's father (he had a fairly new 4Runner) and I was into the super speedy days of my late 20s and he was talking about how the high rpm driving over long periods of time is so harsh on internal engine components.
17yrs later I am finding these tacomas on TW running into mega+miles especially @1997tacomav6 whom I believe runs his at very high rpms :)
the discussion with that guy is probably why i rarely if ever take my rpms over 3k unless its in 5th gear and I am ready to haul it down the freeway

For the past 4 years I get close to redline on my daily commute. The lack of altitude and the weight of my truck make it quite anemic. In order to do the speed limit it needs to be pinned going up hills.

yes, i do remember the 4cyl struggling to go up small hills with any kind of load in the back (even just a sack of clothes and a good size portable plastic toolbox)

Download the UlyssesSpeedo/odometer app. It gives you your correct speed and you can calculate odometer+/-.

Probably did, not that that means it's okay that he was pancaked but it sucks if that incident was all because the little car tried to squeeze in between the two:(
