What Suspension Parts Should I Replace (Will Be Dealer)

    Hi,
I have read numerous threads regarding suspension modifications. Tomorrow I am going to go to Boulder Toyota to have some suspension parts replaced. I do not want to lift the truck. My goal is to improve the drive quality. 95% of the driving is on pavement and the other 5% is county road access (National Forest access, etc.). I prefer handling/performance versus comfort. And I don't do any serious off-roading (I have a KTM motorcycle for that!)

The truck is 2008 AC TRD Sport that has 170K miles (in very good condition / well maintained). The suspension is all stock. I bought the truck from a family member who used the truck for commuting in a rural area in the mountains. For 2-3 years the truck was driven regularly on a rough wash-board county road in the mountains. No towing was done and no heavy loads were carried.

After driving the truck for a year my impression is the shocks need to be replaced. But I am not a mechanic so I need some help regarding knowing if their are other parts I should replace (coil overs, leaf springs, etc)

I appreciate any suggestions. I have budgeted $500 but can go higher (I would like to stay under $1K and again this will be done by a Toyota dealer).

    Any ideas?

The shocks alone will prob cost you 500$ at the dealer installed.

If it where mine I would probably start with the shocks and see how much better it rides.

If you go replacing coils and leaf packs at the dealer I'm sure the bill would be high.

Thank you for the suggestion (Replace the shocks only first and go from there).

Just a quick follow up. I had the Bilstein 5100's installed. Boulder Toyota did a great job ($900 all-in, which was fine with me). But more importantly my Tacoma drive's so much better. It is much more flat cornering and going over pot holes, cracks, speed bumps, and man-hole covers on rough Colorado pavement is much smoother. I don't see any reason to replace any other suspension parts. If I had known it was going to ride this much better I would have replaced the shocks much sooner!
