    Hey guys,

new to the forum, and glad to be here. I was wondering if someone could help me identify this canister attached to the right side of the engine bay. Well, WAS attached, the metal broke out around the bolts. So it sort of just rests in the broken holes.

Anyways, it looks like two canisters mounted together. One line from top canister connects to my throttle cable. A line from the bottom canister runs along the firewall and attaches to some lines feeding into my intake.

The first picture shows the part disconnected from the side wall.

canister on bottom is vacuum accumulator, vacuum pulled off of intake when engine is running.

cap the lines if you pull it out

it appears to be an aftermarket add on, quite different from whats on my 3rd gen 4Runner which is totally electronic, using a stepper motor instead of vacuum.

what buttons do you have for cruise ? if it were a factory deal the buttons would actually be a lever on bottom right of steering wheel center, and turn with wheel

I found this picture on google. This is what my cruise control handle looks like. Lever on the left side of wheel.

What would be the purpose of the vacuum pulling off the intake. and could I remove it, and change that T leading into the intake into a straight tube?

Vacuum is what pulls and holds the accelerator open when cruise is engaged, old school used for years on most brands until electronics became the norm.
yes, remove the T and straight line is just fine. that lever is most defiantly an after market deal.

look on and near the rear driveshaft, may be several magnets wired to the tube and a sensor and bracket hanging very near. the magnets and sensor were what the Cruise system used to read speed so it knew how fast to keep the vehicle.

Ahhhh. That makes sense, thanks for clarifying. I may remove it, for one to clear up my engine bay, and two, it annoys me that it is broke from the side wall.

You've been a great help
