I still won't ever cruise control up a grade, I swear that killed my 97 Buick and was the root cause of a lot of issues down the road.

Because I'm curious, what did you not like about the 2001 tundra? Only because my dad has a 2000 with 450,000 miles on it that he still loves more than me.

    Hey OP...
The '16 auto is no pussy...!! Hit the ECT button and turn off the trac control and floor it... It's just like the 2gens...!!

You just have to learn what it can do by experimenting... It wants to give you good MPG (that's the default setting).... if you choose power over that, then choose that..!! It's YOUR choice..!

I love this new truck... just get to know her better and you might as well...

I'm not sure why you're upset about the Sport not having a locker. They've never come with one. It's not hard to add one or get an Offroad and add the cosmetics of a Sport :notsure:

"Same old Taco"-Which was GREAT, but with a little more comfort, a little better ride, a little quieter, a better tailgate, better interior, and better MPGs... For me, someone who has WANTED one of these "same old Tacos" for 25+ years (while you were driving them), this was a SCORE! Sorry it was a huge disappointment for you.

Multiple issues: brakes, transmission, rear end. 5 o2 sensors. all before 45k miles. they covered everything under warrantee except the first 3 o2 sensors ($300 each). All those issues made me question its longevity so I cut my losses and traded. Toyota corporate did the right thing: they stepped in, admitted there were serious issues, the brakes were a known problem as were the o2 sensors. they refunded my $ spent on the o2 sensors and gave me $1500 towards my trade on the '05 taco on top of the deal the dealership gave me. the truck was crap, but toyota did the right thing, earning my loyalty even more. besides all that, the tundra was just bigger than i wanted anyway. I like the tacomas small(ish) foot print. easier in tight spots and simply more nimble on the road.

There was a crack in the windshield that I filled 2 days after it happened. It's the size of a pin hole, other than that, just needs an oil change @ 10k. Was an awesome truck, just needed a full size atm. I'll probably own another Tacoma in the future and that's why I still hang around. It's been sitting on their lot since Thanksgiving so they may be eager to sell. It's was originally listed at 32.9k but when I just checked for you, I saw they dropped the price.

They may have replaced the windshield, I just don't know

Oh and I tinted the side windows so that's already done

It was just something i thought they should have added during the update. sport vs OR.. just personal preference. I like the scoop and the color matched over fenders and bumper. Crawl mode means nothing to me as I'm not off road much. kinda like the sport wheels better too, but i will say they did a good job on all the wheels this time. Also, the sports models ive seen all had michelins on them. WAY better for what i do than the dunlop at-20's they used to use.

I love mine, havent had any of the issues i see on this forum. The transmission shifts a lot, because it has a lot of gears. And i am regulary getting 25 mpg on the highway 18-15 in town. I previously had a 1994 4wd with the 22re.

Bought it in Jackson, traded it in in Memphis. Jackson's where I work, Memphis is where I hunt and where I'm originally from.

I like the '16's, but I definitely would have preferred a larger, higher-torque engine that stayed in a lower rpm band "off & off" the highway. if I were in the market for a new Tacoma now, I'd seriously consider the 6-spd manual...

haha, yeah. I was playing around with ECT the other night and accidentally hit the traction control button when trying to turn on the map light. Didn't realize it. Gunned it coming out of a turn and my rear end tried to pass the front. I have to admit I'm still complaining about the sleepy nature it has at low rpms without changing settings, but I also don't get the gear hunting as bad these days and it's nice to get 20+mpg around town.

I get OPs complaints. I really do. I had a 2013 and loved it to death. Only traded because I needed a real towing package (my 13 was just a hitch), 4x4, and some better suspension... but that driveline vibe wasn't easily overlooked.

Also let's not forget where the little pickup came from. In its early days it wasn't meant to be very beefy. The original goal was something reliable that would get the job done. The 2016 may have lost some bottom end grunt but it's still an outstanding pickup, and I think it's worth every penny.

To OP I have to say: to each his own, I suppose. I can't discount your opinion. It's valid and many would agree. I would suggest you check out the Frontier or, if you're legitimately looking to trade in, go for a 2015. Probably get a really good deal on those these days, and they're just as good as ever.

Hell, I like my 2015 just for the location of the oil filter :/

But I'm in no way anti-2016 (never driven one, though).

I think the 2016's biggest hurdle is that after 10 years, and Chevy throwing their gloves into the ring, many were expecting a revolution, not an evolution. As OP mentioned, the 2016 is pretty much better at everything... The reason the 2015 is still a great truck, is because it was by no means terrible at anything. The 2016 is and will be a great truck. If you have something that works, you make little improvements where needed, you don't rewrite the playbook.

    Pretty much stock
I'm glad I am not the only only one that felt this was a Honda Civic truck. Making the truck hold 80mph on even the slightest grade is a struggle. This motor is a disappointment compared to the 4.0. Don't get me wrong I love tacomas (this is my 4th one) but I feel like Toyota dropped the ball. Not to mention I feel like I am sliding out of the seat...why is it 2016 and we have a 4 way manual seat in a 35k plus truck???
