This a couple of days ago I was having a rotate and balance done at Firestone. They noticed my front passenger side wheel bearing going bad and quoted me $570 to replace it. I said screw that I will do it myself. I bought a new bearing assembly and took the old bearing/hub off the spindle. I took it to Pepboys to have the hub pressed into the new bearing but they wanted $120:eek: So I went to the mechanic up the street and he could not get it apart. I finally ended up at Toyota and refused to press out my old hub and press it into the new bearing. They say they can't use the bearing (purchased from O'Riley's), so they want me to buy a bearing, hub and bolt, with labor its going to be over $500. There has to be an easier way. I have a 2wd Prerunner if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance for the help,
    Nick

I'd go pay the 120$ to have it done and call it a day. Napa USED to press stuff for free, but I think they stopped that.

The dealership said they would ruin the hub pressing it out, so would this be the same at Pepboys or is the stealership giving me the runaround?

They are half right. Can it be ruined? Yes. Will it be ruined? Probably not...

I'll take my chances and go to Pepboy's then and hope all goes well. Thank you!

Just look for another local machine shop! That's what I do for mine and it only costs about 40$
