Kind of disappointed it took this many posts in a thread about Portland to turn political. Typically TW gets that stuff out of the way and the thread gets locked within the first few posts. Is TW changing? Are people actually reading the rules? Shocking. This isn’t the TW I know

My grandparents briefly had a house in Compton in the late 1950s. They still describe it with fondness as a "very neighborly place."

This could be so easily solved by auditing recyclers and ports for recycling materials but they decided to just audit that guy that sold a iPhone on eBay for $600 instead.

Which he probably paid at least that for.

Happening in the bike collector market big time nowadays and the suck part there is who kept paperwork from 30 plus years ago or gets a receipt from a swap show

From what little I've read I thought that the majority of stolen cats are actually not going through the commercial scrappies. A lot of them are (or were, there was a bust in November) going through organized crime. Those guys had their own Walter White characters that knew enough electrochemistry to extract the metals and fence the raw oxides to the refiners. Completely outside of your local metal recycler yards.

It's the going theory on why law enforcement is having such a tough time identifying and shutting down the crime wave. The cats aren't going where they're looking. Or I should say that it's the least cynical theory.

there’s sketchy ads made by sketchy characters all over Facebook for this stuff all the time. It’s pretty out in the open.

Data point: drug use in rural communities is just as prevalent, it’s just not as easy to observe for obvious reasons. I live in a rural area with traditionally conservative drug laws. There’s an epidemic of opioid use here.

I would point you in the direction of economic and social factors that are much bigger contributors to likely drug use than variability in drug laws.

Something else for you to consider is whether variability in drug laws just decides whether the drug use is hidden or out in the open. I submit that the user is likely using either way.
