What things / gear do you keep in your truck?

Under the bedcover in the front dry-boxes I have electrical repair gear, general tools, tie down/bungee/ratchet/recovery straps, and snacks. A jump box with air compressor. In the side-bed boxes I have screwdrivers/pliers and sockets/wrenches. Strapped to the bed rail is my rechargeable "D" light and a sling chair.

Behind the double cab back seats I have a fire extinguisher, blanket, jacket, gloves, rain suit, ice scraper, back road atlas of my state and two neighboring states, paper maps, collapsible backpack and duffel bag.
Under the back seats I have a jack/lug wrench/tire plug kit and on the other side I have velcro strips, zip-ties, string, light rope, and tape.

Under the driver seat are strap on crampons in a plastic bag. Under the passenger seat is whatever book I am reading at the time (also in a plastic bag). Beside the front seats are 3D Maglights. In the driver side door pocket are a flat blade and cross point screw driver and a pair of slip joint pliers. In every door pocket is an auto open/close umbrella.

In the console I keep pencil cases with Tylenol/Advil/Aspirin, Mouthwash/floss/deodorant/comb, Pens/pencils/Sharpies, rolled coins/cash, cords/chargers/adapters, microfiber rags.

In the glove box are spare eyeglasses, registration/etc, owners manual.

I pack various duffle bags with "theme's". One is my recovery gear. Another is winter clothes. Then there's a cleaning kit. Also have a tool bag. Small travel kit (maps, etc...) This allows me to change what's in the truck with what I'm doing. And I can easily remove everything if I need the space for passengers, etc....

 

Man, I know why...LOTS of places I go have no cellular coverage, thus no map data on my phone. I like having the ability to find my way back out.

Honestly, less is more for me. I use to have a full first aid kit with different meds. Most of them became expired. I have since gone to a lifesaver mentality. I carry a few Israeli combat pressure dressings, tourniquet, sam splint, gorilla tape (multi purpose alternative to band aids), nitrile gloves, and finally 2 tampons (non applicator). The British SAS include these in their personal first aid kit because they work so well for bullet or other penetrating wounds. My kit focuses mainly to preserve life or limb.

I’m lacking on recovery stuff don’t do the heavy off road anymore.
Damm kids in their diesel dogs got most everything shut down. Never went out looking to get mud everywhere.
I’d rather walk thru without spinning a wheel.
Jumper pack tire pressure gauge first aid kit lighters most anything you’d need sitting in your couch at home.
Also dog leash and dog treats but with all the compartments I find shit I forgot I had then forgot where I stashed it again.
Sucks getting old!

it makes more sense to me. for most of us adults that are a little outdoorsy here, a small scrape on our leg from a rock during a hike is not worth ending the hike. it might be for a 5 year old, but most of us are more to the point where a little blood is not great, but we know we can survive..

i've been naturally transitioning to more 'major medical' type first aid kits for a similar reason. the walmart kits include a bunch of booboo bandaids, cold packs, cotton swabs, and tylenol for miniscule cuts and scrapes with a small amount of gauze.

i started to realize that i never got any use out of the kits, and the majority of the stuff, i don't even use in my medicine cabinet at home.

if i'm reaching for the first aid kit, it's because i was pushed off the road and pinned into the vehicle with serious injuries, bear attacks, or generally questioning if i'm going to outlive the incident. so a cutsie little kit with 1" bandaids, cotton swabs, and tylenol is almost entirely useless.

 

I don't and also hopefully never have to but included it because it is such an usefull thing for any penetrating wound where it can provide tampinade beneath the surface of skin (vs. external pressure dressing).
