I'm going to be getting tint this week. What % should I get? What looks the best? I'm leaning toward a darker percentage. Also I'm going to get the whole windshield tinted about 50%.

I'm kinda going for this look tint wise.

Some states have regulations about the maximum tint allowed on windshields, side glass, rear side glass, and rear windows. Might want to see what the Fl. regs are before making a decision.
By the way, your 2nd and 4th choices are the same...

Yeah, I'm aware of the laws. Cops around here don't really care too much about tint.

35 is pretty close to matching the rear two, but gives enough difference gradient to where cops pay it no mind, I like 20% personally, actually seems to help with temperature difference in the cab

I wanted dark tint because of the privacy (guns/money/valuables) and for the looks

Can you see ok out of the front windows with the 20% at night? I have a backup cam too so I'll be good in that way

If you're going to flaunt the regs based on your locals, I recommend you never leave town or enter the jurisdiction of the FHP. 'Cause other jurisdictions do care. While you may, or may not, be pulled based on tint alone, it can easily be piled on as an infraction if pulled for something else. Most LEOs have tint 'scales' they simply hold up to the area to test the %.

No quality shop will install illegal tint anyway. They'll tell you what they can do for you, and let you take your business elsewhere if you don't want to comply.

I do suggest Llumar film be on your shopping list. It's really good stuff and should be backed with a lifetime warranty.

BTW, while uber dark seems pimp and all that, it will restrict your night vision. And it doesn't take long in your area to leave the city lights into the unlit countryside. So use some consideration there too.

I can see good when I roll the windows down :) basic night driving rule of thumb, if it doesn't have lights, you cant see it. Its not horrible but it is bad

Yeah, I did think about travel.. I'll probably go with the 15% all around. I'm doing the backup cam anytime switch mod soon too

My local police will make you strip the tint on the spot if they think its too dark, its up to the officer what is "too dark" as well. But you are right about the night driving outside of the city. I have 3M and it peeled a bit on me but it is warrantied. They will give you any tint you want as long as you sign the sheet saying you know your tint is illegal. But you got er!

Thanks for the input. I'm also going to be doing the backup cam anytime switch mod too, so that'll help out.

For me, 20% is a good comprimise. I have that on all windows even though my state law says 27% is the darkest you can do on the front windows. I can see pretty good at night, but I have had 5% on a previous vehicle, and holy crap I might as well as just spray painted my windows black. Couldn't see shit.

I think 30 front and 15 rear would be the best most likely... I would even go back and get er changed out to have that

Back when I was in the reserves doing law enforcement, we were trained to use dark tint as a reason to pull people over when it was believed they were DUI, etc. Same thing for cracked windshields, crap hanging from the rear view mirror, taillight out, headlights off at dusk/night, etc., all were illegal and gave you cause to pull someone over and determine if the driver was under the influence.

The quick test we were taught was to hold the driver's license inside the window and if you could not read it through the tint, you got a ticket.

Of course that was the military, and a long time ago. Not sure how LEO handle this today.
