Just curious what tire pressure other folks were running in their 275/75/17 tires? I've got mine currently at 36psi on all four. Thought about bumping to 40psi but wanted to see what others were running.

Id run what the door jam states, and then verify it with the chalk test to confirm there is no uneven wear

    P series, or LT's?

I don't use that size, but with any P rated tire I run closer to 40 psi to get optimum fuel mileage, 40+ if I'm hauling any weight or towing. If I'm in a low traction situation I'll reduce pressure to 20-25PSI. Even lower at times. The number on the door is a "Suggested" pressure for the best ride. Not the best for every application. Look at the sidewall of the tires. Most P series tires are rated for 44 PSI max for heavy hauling. The ride is more truck like than car like, but I like that.

I'd pay attention to tire wear. Too much air and the middle of the tread wears faster. But as a rule the outside edge will always wear faster due to cornering when they are on the front. Even running at the upper end of where they should be I still end up with a bit less tread on the outside edges after 50,000, 55,000 miles.

An LT is a stiffer tire to start with and actually needs LESS air pressure to accomplish the same thing. They are rated for 80 PSI max. But that assumes a 7000 lb curb weight truck with a 3000 lb payload. On a Tacoma I'd reduce air pressure about 5-10 PSI lower than I would for P rated tires. I would never go over about 40 PSI even if loaded heavy.

Do what this good man suggests. It is the only way to make sure what you are doing is correct for how you have your truck setup with weight and such.

Chalk test tells no lies.
