Hey guys, thanks for all the helpful replies. Based on your recommendations, I’ve short listed to the Yoko Geo MT and Toyo RT Trails in 255/80r17 on a Method or Icon wheel. Very different category of tire, but similar weights.

My Kenda Rts have been bulletproof, this is my 2nd set of them. Great on road/wet road/snow covered roads, quiet, decent tread life, plow hood deep snow, and do awesome in everything else. Have done some of the hardest trails you can force a tacoma thru with zero punctures or big tears.

Depends a lot on the specific wheel and tire I feel like. Those tires look wider than the 255 Geolandar's on my 7.5" wheels. I too am in this same dilemma. I want a skinny AT tire but no one makes skinny wheels. I found four 8" wheels and nothing narrower than that.

    Black Rhino Aliso
    Evo Corse Dakar Zero
    AEV Crestone

Even with the bead grip features on some of these wheels I'm not sure it's the best route to go. Just to clarify... I don't KNOW either way but I'm skeptical as I've yet to see any real, documented evidence that points in either direction.

I'm with you 100%. I wish there were some more aftermarket skinny wheel options with around 0 offset for a slightly wider stance. Are you running SEMA Pro's now? I'm going to start looking at the wheels you listed above too.

Another that I've been looking at is the FN Konig Six Shooter which is a lightweight 8.0" wheel, I don't think it has any added bead retention technology though. Not opposed to stock Toyota wheels either, which are generally pretty skinny and using a hubcentric spacer.

    pinstripes. lots of pinstripes.
Alpha is still running their sale on the 17x7.5 Foxtrot. I like sticking to 255s/10.5" max tires and haven't found anything thinner than this 7.5, except for the standard offerings from Toyota.

I had good performance on some ground kind of like that (lots of loose rocks, but not as sharp) up around Lake Tahoe running on 285 width Nitto Ridge Grapplers. I'm running 285/75R17s to get to 34", but the 285/70/R17s would be a 33" outer diameter.

I'm not a fan of the SEMA Pro's. Just not my cup of tea. Which is a shame because they're the perfect spec, IMO. I'm currently running the TRD "Beadlock" wheels (16x7.5 +10). And I love them. I wouldn't even be thinking about changing other than the fact that there's no 33" skinnies in 16"

As for the Six Shooter... I just cant bring myself to run a fake TE37.

You're right, I forgot to mention those since I'd removed them from my list. Not really a fan of the design, and definitely not the color options, but I was considering just compromising on that. Until I contacted them and found out they weigh 34lbs! This almost seems unbelievable to me but that's what the manufacturer said so without more info I'm inclined to just trust them and stay away. I think FJ steelies probably weigh less than the Foxtrots (and look better too).

I'm strongly considering 285/75R17s as well, in addition to the 255/80r17. Have to see how much work it would be to fit 34s on the 4th gen, or whether a re-gear would be needed.

I put the 34s on a 4th Gen 4Runner with the 4.7L v8 (about the same hp as the 4.0L v6 but a ton of extra torque in the low end), so I didn't have to worry about re-gearing. I did end up needing some spidertrax on the front end to get the 285s to clear the UCAs. Once I get the front/rear lockers and OBA added to this T4R it's gonna be a monster.

Yeah I can't say I'm super stoked about the SEMA look either.

Ahh, didn't realize the FN's were a copy. Sounds like you've done plenty of homework yourself, definitely looking into the wheels you listed.

34 lbs for a 7.5 inch wheels is insane! You're losing half the benefit of going with 255s at that weight.

Totally man, sounds like an awesome ride. I think 33s are the sweet spot for the 3rd gen Tacoma. The body just looks bulkier on the 4th, and the 33s on the new Pro and TH don't look that big, which has me thinking 34s (or skinny 33s) might look and perform the best. Like I said, depending on work involved.

Agree with you all the way. I'd run the FJ steelies before those.

I've currently got the SEMAs with 235/80 BFG ATs and I like the look, but I've added some custom rock rash.

For some reason your post now has me thinking about trying to use those wheels and then have a beadlock or rock ring put on them. I don't really need beadlocks but I very much enjoy having an easily serviced rock ring.

These pictured are too beefy for me but looks like OMF may have other options. That said, I'm sure this is just getting into insane $$ territory.

i think wider tires would be more ideal for rocks like this. skinnier tires probably better in mud but it varies.

Throwing another tire size into the mix here. 34x10.5r17. I’ve only seen two tires in this size in the KO2 and Toyo OC AT3, however they are a D load tire. I’ve had a few of you say it doesn’t matter what you go with as long as it’s an E for those rough rocks. D is pretty rare but wondering if it would hold up? Or would you still rather have an E instead of the options above?

C rated and d rated tires are perfectly fine too. Our trucks are built for standard load. The other load ratings are made for heavier vehicles. I got e rated because that's all I could find in my size. They are not rough riding but they are stiff. I bet the ride would be better with a c or d rates though to be honest.

Oooh, that looks like a sweet spot to me. I'd really only been considering Wildpeak's because I can get good deals on them but that tire size may just make the Toyo too ideal to pass up on.
