Whatever I can get away with
    Greetings!
So, I just said goodbye to my beloved 2004 TRD! Very bitter sweet, to say the least. I planned on keeping it forever until I started researching, driving, obsessing (this forum is dangerous) over the 2016 these past few months. I decided it was time to upgrade.

This will be my 5th Toyota truck (1985 Hilux, 99 and 2004 Taco, 2007 Tundra) and, I'm struggling mightily with which specific model I'd like to purchase. I used to wrench on my own vehicles when I was younger and had a helluva lot of fun modding everything I drove (I still don't have the ability to not drive things like I've stolen them?), but just don't have the time, patience, courage, etc to do it anymore. Plus, my work schedule is pretty intense right now.

    My question is this? What model should I buy? I'd like it to have a slight lift, nothing to dramatic. I'd like it to ride decently on the road, but I understand it's a truck (My other vehicles are a 2015 4Runner TEP and a C300) so I'm not expecting it to ride like my Benz. I've narrowed it down to these options; I apologize if my acronyms are wrong, (dammit Jim, I'm a doctor, not a mechanic?!);

    1) TRDORDCSB and leave it alone.
    2) Limited and AM lift at a later date.
    3) SR5 and add AM lift, stereo, etc.
    4) 2017 TRD Pro (OMG!) and leave it alone.

Also, I apologize if this has been asked before. I've tried the search option and couldn't find anything similar. I'm curious to hear some opinions from other members. Btw, I absolutely love this forum and wish it would have been around 20 years ago when I was trying to put the Downey OR lift on my Hilux, trying to fit Mickey Thompson 36" tires, welding up the rusted out frame, figuring out I could just bypass the frikin EGR valve with a piece of tin and gasket sealer, etc (loved that 22R!).

    Thanks in advance!
    Doc (BAMF)

2016 O/R, and with the savings over the Pro, upgrade the suspension of you want to. But, drive it a few weeks first to decide.

    And get a stick shift.

    Good luck!

Tough decision, just became tougher?! I spoke with a patient that is a sales manager at a local dealership here and he told me that the TRD Pro is going to come in at or around $42k. I can get a TRDOR with the Premium package (JBL) for around $36,662 and I can get a limited for around $37,754?!
Honestly, unless I get the TRD Pro, I'm probably still going to Mod it eventually? I wish I was a little more confident in my abilities to just do the mods myself, but there really isn't too many people around here that have a lot of knowledge and the dealerships are no help whatsoever.

Not really a comparison. I assume the OR and limited you mention are 2WD trucks.

The TRD pro is 4wd only.

mats, flaps, and stickers. Extang solid fold 2.0. Mobtown sliders and full skids. AVS vents
If you can get the OR for 36K, do that. Put the other 6K into mods (rims, tires, lift, skids, suspension, or whatever). As said, you can do all that for probably under 6k, and build it to your specifications to meet your driving needs.

No, 4WD, I live in Wisconsin, I'd never have a 2WD truck up here, sorry not to clarify. Hell, even my cars are 4WD, lol!

That's the quote I got. It was through the Costco Purchasing Program.

DCLB. The 6ft bed has come in handy so many times. BUT..... If its between a long bed and a manual. Get the manual.

Get an orange one. Manufacturers stopped making awesome colors so get em while you can.

If I went with the TRD Pro, white, otherwise I'm leaning towards silver, like my Gen 1. Great color, looks awesome with black, hides dirt, etc. My wife's ride is a white 2015 4Runner TEP, so I'd probably go that route.

I love black, when it's clean?!

Look at all the threads with people complaining about the black paint scratching and chipping on the 2nd gens. I don't think they improved the paint much for the 3rd gen. Black is dead sexy though...for the 10 minutes after a wash. Silver is a great color because it looks sweet when you clean and wax and you wont have to give a shit about going through an automated car wash like I am with my MGM.

Kinda wish I got mine in silver, I wouldnt have to be washing this thing every week.

Hands down this^^. I hadn't driven a 16 with the manual, but ordered one anyways. Honestly, one of the best choices I made :D I love it.

You live in NJ. I hope during the winter you're washing that undercarriage at least once a week ... Just get a monthly membership at a wash that does undercarriage.

A TRDOR 4x4 with premium tech and JBL for 36k is a smoking deal. That's near 4k off MSRP!

I fluid filmed it, and its like on and off warm(with wet salt covered roads)/cold/sleet/hail/snow/rain for like 2 months so I have a hard time getting to flushing it......which I will do tomorrow. My dad beats the shit out of his trucks and dips them in the bay when dumping his boat and somehow his trucks are fine. At this point I cant do much more.....if she gonna rot.....she gonna rot. Ill still buy another.

Yea, I hear you ... I just had a 98 Rav4 that was my wife's since new, and she grew up in NJ (Kinnelon) ... that thing was a pile of rust despite having been regularly washed. I am now up in MI, and the roads here are even worse. Looking at cars around here you realize why it's known as the rust belt lol ...

I have a black vette. Never gonna have a black truck again.

Silver rules though I like the blue OR too.
