Look at everything you can. Mine had some minor paint blemishes and defect with the 3M. I had them note everything and sign it that they would take care of it, which they did.

As you can see from the responses, check everything.

In addition, never take delivery at night, in rain, snow, etc. You want the truck in really good light to inspect paint, fenders, etc.

I did a test drive for about 75 minutes and tested many of the drive options.

Take your time and check everything. Tell the dealer you’d like to take a little while to check everything over. I brought my brand new Tacoma home and a few days later noticed a small dent just above the windshield. Climbed in the bed to get a better look at the roof and found a dozen or more small dents. It was hail damage. After the first wax, I found a few tiny dents in the hood as well. The same day, I was checking out the storage area under the rear seats and found wet carpet. This was all in the first week of owning it. The dealership ultimately ordered me a new truck but it took a lot of time and frustration to get them to agree to that.

When I picked mine up it was bought from an out of state dealer and I made the entire deal over the phone and email. Pick up was the first time we met in person. I have to say for the Folks at Bill Kidd's Toyota, they really were good, they really wanted to be sure you checked it out. they sent me out to test drive the truck and said don't come back in under 15 minutes, this was before we finished up in finance. When I arrived the Truck was in the cleaning and detail booth under the big lights they took me back to see it. I also did a walk around check out side in the sunlight. Don't pick it up at night unless they have a well lit space to view the vehicle. do a good test drive, test the heat, the ac, open and close all the windows and doors. Make sure there are no dings, or any blemishes on the inside or out. Hopefully drive away happy

Our members have given you some great advice. Doing your due diligence always helps, but sometimes you just need luck on your side.
    Since 2017 I purchased 4 new vehicles
    2017 corvette
    2019 F250 XLT
    2019 tacoma TRD off road
    2022 tacoma TRD off road.
I gave them all a good once over before signing my life away (I only test drove the vette). I got lucky I guess, no body damage to any off them, none were low on tranny fluid ( that I know of), no areas left unpainted. I was happy with the delivery of all 4 vehicles.
One thing that nobody has mentioned yet is checking out the dealership itself.
My 2019 F250 developed a engine knock with under 3k miles on it. I had owned the truck for less than 2 months. The service manager had that deer in the headlights look as he explained that his "Motor guy" was off at diesel school and it was gonna take a while to get my truck fixed (mine was a gas 6.2).
I don't know enough about new car dealers to explain how to check out the service dept, but I never thought they wouldn't have the mechanics to fix my truck.
Luckily Ford bought that truck back under the lemon law, and they gave me a new f250 diesel to drive for 4 moths ( and 15k miles) while they processed my paperwork. That was all because the dealership didn't have the personal for a motor swap.
As I type this response my 2022 tacoma that I have owned for 9 days is parked in my garage because I am unable to drive it. The dealer I brought it from in a neighboring state of Massachusetts didn't fully understand that in Massachusetts you have 7 days to transfer your registration to your new vehicle. My 7 days was up yesterday and my insurance agent called me and told me to part the truck
Until it gets sorted out. The dealer didn't forward the paperwork to the DMV within the specified timeline. I never imagined this would happen, but here I am.
So check out your new truck, but also check out the dealer as best you can.

Just inspect it inside and out, pop the hood, check all the latches and doors, make sure the accessories are included or installed. I highly doubt a test drive is needed unless you aren't 100% planning on buying the car, theres plenty of people in line. Also make sure they have it filled up on gas, its included. If anything is missing, make the dealer fill out an "I owe you" form which states they owe you something not included or forgotten.

Got mine 700 miles away, checked it over pretty well, no test drive and drove home with a grin the entire way.

From early 16 when this was found a problem it was suggested that a physical check was done as the electronic test was sometimes not correct. The challenge was that if the transmission cooler and lines were port installed and that was the issue because it wasn't refilled to compensate. Should be threads on this.

I ordered it on 12/17, 4 weeks this Friday. They told me then that it would be 12-15 weeks. I emailed the salesman 2 days ago and asked for a rough guess as to how many weeks it'll take? He replied, "I'm not sure .. a few weeks maybe ...I'm going say like 5 week just to be safe.." So, I'm happy with that.

I think that Toyota pays the dealership back for that.
