After researching I think I'm gonna lightly sand down the frame and then hit it with black Woolwax. Anyone have any experience with the black woolwax?

Wool wax mixed with some used motor oil... The wool wax specific applicator/sprayer makes quick work of the process. Be sure to wear proper PPE. Especially if you decide to mix some oil in.

This works awesome for removing the rust before you apply your inhibitor of choice. Spray or wipe it on then spray off with a hose. The beauty is it gets into the tight crevices and there's no sanding, brushing or scrubbing needed.

You can also check out some vids from repair geek on yt. He’s been testing a newer product from the pb blaster company that seems to creep like ff and wow but doesn’t wash off as easily.

My buddy picked up the fluid film kit and let me borrow the gun and hoses. I bought a gallon of the ff black for about $50 and spent 2 nights crawling under my truck spraying everything I could. I’m happy with the results but wish I spent more time pulling frame plugs and getting the insides of the rails and crossmembers but I know I’m much better off than most.

So after doing some research and reading a bunch of helpful posts in this thread I have finally finished my frame. Figure I’d share my process in case that is helpful for others looking to do this.

1.) Clean under truck and let dry fully
2.) Wire brush and sand all surface rust
    3.) Spray rustoleum Rust reformer
    4.) Spray rustoleum automotive enamel
5.) coat with PB blaster surface spray

Can post some photos later and send an update of the pros and cons. First time doing this so any feedback would be appreciated. FYI I did avoid rubberized coating after reading some horror stories.

Just curious...why the used motor oil? Is there some property of the wool wax that is lacking and the used oil makes up for?

Allows it to spray well. Creeps more. Gets into all the nooks and crannies. Also seems to protect better, why... I can only guess.

The military did testing a long time ago on rust proofing amphibious vehicles. Lanolin mixed with used diesel oil performed the best.
