Been looking on the forum on and off for a few weeks about suspension and long travel. I just swapped out my OEM suspension for the Boss 2.5 kit. It was an absolute headache of a job but still really fun. Currently looking for mods that I can add to my truck to start moving in the direction from mid travel to long travel. I’ve read the forums about long travel and made phone calls to shops but what I’ve heard is it’s one big jump.

Some things that come to mind would be:
    35s
    Re gearing
    Fenders

If anyone has any advice or ideas of what I could do to prepare to make the jump to long travel that would be awesome.

If you're still holding doge you f'ed up.

OP, long travel looks like plenty of cutting/welding along with above bed bracing. Basically your truck will be a one trick pony, no more hauling plywood or building materials in the bed. It will be really good at that one trick, though.

I had no idea what a boss 2.5 kit was, so I had to google it. I saw no evidence that it is mid-travel. The definition of mid travel generally includes extended length coil overs, UCAs, new leaf packs, and extended length rear shocks.

In any case, I believe the general wisdom is that there is no incremental path from mid travel to long travel. It’s all or nothing

But why would you do that before deciding on how much you are lifting it with the long travel? Just get the max length? Is there a drawback to brake lines that are too long? There seems to be zero benefit to having longer brake lines on a standard 2” lift. I don’t even have those on my 2” mid travel lift. With that logic, you could add limit straps too.

4” longer rear and 1” longer front, no big deal with long travel suspension. I am not talking about 2” lift. It would really suck after your got your long travel suspension installed and find out the brake hoses are taught before full droop.
Serious Off road vehicles with a lot of suspension travel have the brake hoses in springs to pull them away at full compression.
If they are too long they can drag on stuff, get caught etc.
    Killer deal https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/front-and-read-hs-stainless-brake-lines.725898/

I understand you. My point is that installing longer brake lines long before you need them could be a waste of money.
