I just found out about the recall yesterday when I went in to get the airbag and carpet recalls taken care of. The dealer told me about the frame recall and that I would be getting a call. I said ok. I did some reach when I got home. OMG!!! I have a near MINT 2005 Tacoma with only 55,000 miles on it.! What should I do??? I am reading that there is a BUYBACK program. Is this the way to go? Please Help. I also have a Corolla, so I have been a good customer for years.

They will not do a buy back on your truck, that was only for 00 and older vehicles. They will most likely remove the rust and treat the frame. if it is really bad they will replace the frame.

The frame on my "06 Tacoma is very rusty. However, after inspection Toyota said there were no holes in the frame. The tech who did the inspection said that was the end of it. Toyota was not going to provide rust removal or additional coating to prevent further rust. I contacted Toyota customer service, and was given a case number. Today I received a call back from Toyota. Some customer service representative answered my question with what sounded like a written script, any effort to stop the rust is only for vehicles registered in several north and northeastern states. As Toyota referred to the area as cold weather states. My vehicle is Colorado. So if you live in a state not in the first issue of this voluntary warranty extension or whatever it is, you are out of luck if your frame doesn't have large holes in it. Any suggestions where to go from this point?

Honestly they treated my frame the stuff they used does not seem very durable at all. In my opinion you are better off treating it yourself and keeping up with the rust prevention. My 08 is rusty but not anymore than any other vehicle in Ontario. I am going to crown rust protecr it every year.
