I'd try to not sell the truck. Wife's car can be the family car.

On the other hand...don't ever love anything that can't love you back (aka the truck).

Do what's best for your family and you can't reasonably regret that decision. Best of luck to ya

Keep the truck, keep the other vehicle you have, and buy a Mazda MX30 for when you need the room.

Or keep your truck, get rid of the other vehicle and get a Sienna or Odyssey van.

Or sell your truck and get a fullsize, or a 4Runner.

Your truck is 14 years old. Keep it and buy a minivan.

I had a Mazda b2300 regular cab for about a year with a newborn. While it technically seated 3 across the bench with the airbag off it was not the easiest to shift gears with the wife sitting in the center, gearshift between her legs! I sold it and bought a new Nissan Micra (Not sold in the US). It was nice to not worry about if the car was going to be unreliable, and 4 doors for the car seat. After our son graduated from the rear facing seat, I bought the access cab. If you're under 6' tall, you can fit a forward facing seat behind the driver.
We're a 1 car family, and I wanted the 4 cylinder 5 spd Tacoma. Don't get too nostalgic about the truck. You'll be back in the game soon enough (unless you have a second kid.) Sell it if you don't have the space to keep it, keep it if you have space.
My beef with the access cab is that they put the car seat anchor behind the drivers seat, so you have to take your child out of the truck into traffic, as opposed to onto the sidewalk.
I did have to remove the headrest from the back seat so the car seat would fit, however

Guy who lived down the street had a Ranger regular cab 5spd. Had two kids like five years apart, got divorced moved away. Got remarried, had at least one other kid, last time I saw him he was still driving that Ranger. Regular cab truck worked for him.

Why do you think his first wife divorced him!
How the hell do you fit 2 kids and a wife in a regular cab Ranger for family trips?
As an only vehicle, I couldn't imagine trying to do multiple 12 hour trips to see the family 3 abreast in a single cab compact truck.
Once was enough. It was extremely uncomfortable, and in the event of an accident, seeing as the middle seat only has a lapbelt, very unsafe.
Mind you, after 3 kids and a divorce, surprised he even has 2 nickels to rub together.

I think he left her, and I think she was the bread winner, but that's irrelevant.

Yeah I don't think it was the easiest way to get the kids around, I recall him having to car seats on the front bench.

Thing is, many American families grew up with only a single cab fullsize truck, as their only vehicle. They made that work, people and their children probably did not need to travel all over the place all the damn time. Much simpler times back then.

I knew the Tacoma was small when I bought it. I was newly divorced and it had all the room I needed.

time goes by. I know things will change. Preemptively bought a tundra for future growth…. While I can still afford it. People keep telling me a kid(s) are expensive.

this is why most people should always buy a crew cab if they're on the fence, room for growth and best resale

I believe 12k miles per year is considered average, less would be low mileage, more high. Yours calculates to 6200 per year, so very low.

I'll bet if you offer it up for sale at 8600, it'll sell within an hour. Ask double that amount, see what happens.

    Time to start adulting...

Of course you will regret things. That's part of becoming a grown up. But it's not how many things you accumulate that make you happy, it's how many things you enjoy. Time to enjoy your family. Soon enough the kid will be grown up and gone and then you will understand loss.

I sold my 99 4runner for a 05 Honda Odyssey when we had our second child. The 4runner was the first new car I bought with my own money from my first job after college. Lot of good memories with my girlfriend/wife then first child. From time to time I regretted selling the 4runner but it was the right and best decision at the time. Kids are expensive and having a depreciating asset sitting on the driveway blocking access and paying for extra insurance did not make sense. Besides, I took that money and put it in my kid's 529. Now it's going to pay for most of his college.

I can’t stand having more than two vehicles for my wife and I. If we could only have 1 I’d go that route - but two is unfortunately the minimum for the suburban lifestyle (without serious convenience issues).

Sad truth about these awesome trucks, they aren't the best family vehicle. Even my DC struggles with our infant car seat. Luckily, I have a camper shell so any extras can just be tossed in the bed securely.

But if we decide to have another child, I am not sure I can make it work....sucks cuz like you, I am super attached to this thing.

I debate selling the 240sx too. Hardly use it but it would be great to hand it down to my 7 month old boy one day.

OP, if you can afford it just keep it. You will regret selling it if you’re even asking the question. I regret selling a 86 AE86 GTS, a 93 Toyota pickup 4x4 just to name a couple. I have a 21 Taco and she has a 22 4Runner. I would say keep it as long as you can, you can always sell it later if it’s not working out.

I bought a Eurovan. Tons of room, the VR6 actually gets a respectable 25 mpg and it's got way more style than a Odyssey or Sienna
