Buy a supercharger then plan a trip to hawaii. Nice!

Id suggest spend half a day in lahaina for that old Hawaiian day feel.

Haha don't be mad at me for that! Been planning to do both things at some point in time for quite a while now.

No, we don't know that either.

Going up to Lahaina and Kanapali is very nice, a bit more pricey and to me geared a bit more touristy. Definitely visit the areas, but I liked staying other places on the island better.
I personally liked for the money, the Aston Maui Lu Resort, very affordable and I liked the feel. It is not very uppity and if you read the reviews online some people really dog it. It is a good location for easy/centralized access to a lot of places on the island. All in all it felt more my style, not fancy, relaxed, still a great view of the water and a small beach. Although it has resort in its name, I don't consider it a resort.
Probably my most favorite but I doubt we will ever afford that again, is the Grand Wailea, an amazing resort.

Maybe our Hawaiian friends can chime in and give you more advice? I know and like the Big Island better, only been to Maui a few times. If it is not too late, is the Big Island out.

Go the road to Hana it takes all day and it well worth it. 500 something hair pin turns 50 one lane bridges. A awesome drive. And tons of water falls. Also go 2 jaws when the waves are big and watch 50 foot waves it may be kinda small these days but winter it's pumpin

When we were there we drove the road to Hana which was awesome. We started from where we were staying in Kapalua and drove the whole thing. Definitely some sketchy parts, like when you met someone going the other way and one of you had to back up until there was a spot wide enough to pass, but well worth it!

OP yes, highly recommended, and maybe one of these guys can tell you better than I, don't stop at every little waterfall and scenic view. There is also a blacksand beach that is good stop to get wet at.

Thanks everyone keep it coming! We are not dead set on Maui btw, but are going to decide soon. I've just always heard that Maui is the one to go to especially for your first time.

Like I told my brother, you will hear different things from everybody about where the best place is to go. Ultimately everyone has their own favorites, and if you take anyone's advice, it will be right because it is Hawaii. Everything there is amazing and can't be fit into one trip. Go anywhere now, then somewhere else next time, that is what we try to do.

Maui is a perfect place to start.

    IMHO

kauai/big island/maui are the best places to go "first"
depends on what you want to do.

oahu has the most commercial stuff to do, it's the city island.
the other three I mentioned are the more scenic islands

Pure lush scenery and waterfalls would be kauai. Pure volcanic scenery and lava would be big island.

Maui has a nice balance to it. Enough scenery and enough tourist attractions.

Believe or not the days inn in kihei is on one of the nicest beaches...cheap too no frills but clean and good launch pad for explorations. Haleakala, big Beach, Mama's Fish House, take the ferry to lanai, Hana is cool...
