I can't help you with what you get annoyed about but you can either continue to drive at 80 and be annoyed or slow down to 70 and have the revs be less annoying in a headwind if you find yourself stuck in 4th.

My guess is this is using cruise control too?

If so try squeezing the throttle instead, seems to hold gear better than with cc on or if it continues kick over to S5 with ECT until the winds subside. Have always hated cc performance on Toyotas, even my 1st gens were shifty with CC on trying to maintain speed on undulating terrain.

There, a TW member owner offered help to you, just like jeep guys.

No mechanical malfunction. Just poorly designed.

yes I agree my opinion, just like yours. both smell like roses to some, ass to others. But lets not annoy each other any more.

Thanks. I have discovered that it is worse with CC on and don't use it at all anymore, which is unfortunate, because for long trips cruise control is nice.

Sadly, this is basically my exact situation. Wifey is still pissed at me for buying the more expensive Taco over the "nicer" (her words) Colorado.

I like the truck. I can sorta live with the quirks. If/When I watch it turn 100K miles, I'll probably be glad I bought it. I'll likely trade it to something else before that if the quirks get any worse, though.

It is not a big enough problem for me to drop my truck. Otherwise I like it a lot. I just wish it was a little better and I think that it could have been if Toyota wanted it to be.

my wife would have been pissed if I bought an auto trans, which was why I ordered my manual trans without testing a 3rd gen. Every time I see a twin, I am more thankful I got the taco. THis morning on the way to work, I saw a 2nd gen white taco, parked in front of a white colorado, again very happy with my purchase.

I agree it should be better, but I think the government regs are forcing this shit. I am sure yota would love to give us more, why wouldn't they?

You can go back from S5 or 6 to D and CC on when the wind let's up or terrain levels off. It's not hard to do when transitioning on the fly for different driving conditions.

You are welcome to your opinions, its not like this is Russia or China. However I'd like to point out that anything is an upgrade over a 22R or RE and I don't see any former 1GR owners bragging about their new 2GR.

Maybe so, but it wouldn't get me in the tundra, unless it was one of the first ones.

@jsinnard said this earlier, and I think he has totally hit the nail on the head.

Pitty too, that a Tundra is out of my size/price range.

Installing a 1-6" lift will have no affect on engine or trans performance. Even adding 33" tires will NOT cause a trans and or engine to have the problems the OP described.

Welcome to the party. You're a little late but I promise there is plenty of poor sentiment left to go around.
