It sounds it could work but I would think about all of your options and figure out what would get you where you want to be the fastest.

I think that you could get a big sign on bonus if you decline the paid schooling.

Well, i mean I am using common sense right now. I have always wanted to get into intelligence, and have always planned to use the military to make myself more marketable for it. Why not go into the military doing what I want to do as a civilian, and who know maybe I would stay in it for the long run If i was doing what I wanted.

It really seems like there are a lot of options to consider and a lot of 'what if's. I don't think there's really a clear answer here. Like I said, list out all of your options and figure out which will be the best path for you.

The only reason I would stress getting the degree is - what if you ultimately don't like what you do in the military? You'll have the degree to fall back on and ME can get you into so many fields.

At this point, you gotta do what you gotta do. Best of luck

dgerm have you considered c.i.a. or f.b.i .? they are looking for people of your caliber and though you might not get to kill our enemies directly you sure as hell can help.they are dying for linquists and technical specialists.also they pay pretty good & you would be helping your country and probably getting some travel to see the world

That is exactly where I want to end up! However is it VERY competitive to get in and I figured military training would help distinguish me. Also the army is more than willing to put me in a 7 hr a day intensive arabic course so I would have to decide if I want to become fluent on my own or let someone else provide the instruction for me.

My dad was FBI until he recently retired, who know what my brother does (I don't have a clearance to even know where he works, but he did give me a tour of langly on family day), and my friends dad lived the coolest life of anyone I know. He spent 30 years as a covert operative and speaks 9 languages haha

You major will define little, if anything, that you do in the military- unless you want it to. I graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree and now...I'm a pilot- after I spent two years driving a ship. Not doing ONE thing engineering wise.

My best friend is an Army Bridging/Combat engineering company commander right now...and he graduated with a degree in PoliSci...

    See where I'm going??

You are almost done with your ME degree- Finish that cause it's the closest to you and you'll be checking a LARGE important box. It also gives you something to fall back on like was mentioned already.

Once you have a degree- Grab an OCS spot or enlist for whatever service you'd to get into MI...I know intel has officer spots and with a degree- officer is the way to go. More money, more responsibility, and you are doing the same mission alot of the time.

That's just my $.02...You have to be happy with what you decide and consider the fact that you might not like something or you might find something you never even considered...and it can change your whole plan.
    Best of luck!

    ^^ Good Advice ^^
Finish school like Brunes & the others said.
My degree was journalism, didn't know what I wanted to do, enlisted did OCS & ended up a signal officer.
Get the degree & you can paint the canvas however you want especially with the linguistic background.
