So since purchasing my 2019 TRD OR AT. 5 months & 4800 miles later, dealership is replacing drums & rear end. What should I expect next. Transmission or engine ?
Truck hasn’t yet seen dirt just normal highway driving. I’m really at the point of regret.
Apart from regret, the feeling of stupidity for buying this POS knowing it was assembled In Mexico.

    Sorry for your troubles.

    Welcome to TW

Edit: Was a reason given for the failure of the rear end & drums?

Not yet. Brought it in for rear end leaking & high pitch howl. They informed me the rotors were warped & rear end needs replacement.

Just so you know, the Mexico built trucks have generally had a better track record than Texas built trucks. The rear drums have been an issue for a few people here; and issues with the rear ends on 19s. But it seems the issues have been resolved after the repair.

    Chin up, buttercup.

There are no Rotors in the rear, sounds like the Dealer doesn't know what is going on.

Rear does not have disc/rotors, it has drums/shoes

Drums were mis-cast / out of round. You're not going to warp that slab of cast iron.

Many diffs have had a leak issue. The cure is not a replacement, but a resealing of the diff.

If you diff is being replaced, that would be somewhat unusual.

BTW, both parts mentioned come 'pre built' and are just assembled in the chassis in whatever assembly line. So if those parts are flawed it has nothing to do with Mexico. At all.

Unless you were having vibration issues, I fail to see the need for drum replacement. Also, I would love to know what initiated the replacement of the diff. If it was a whine complaint, there are a number of TSB items to check/replace before they even think about replacing the diff. More info needed here to get a better picture. They picture you have here, in my eyes, is a defective dealer.

Dont read anything here. The more you read the more problem you will find. Just trade it in for a Ranger.

Blinker fluid should only be captured in an EPA approved container.

Four years and 35k miles later, I have had no real issues to speak of. Generally, the Tacoma is pretty darn reliable. Of course, you'll find plenty of cases to the contrary when you're snooping around on a forum. Not surprising since many people without issues will keep plugging along and never post on a forum, unless they are an enthusiast like many of us here.

FWIW my Baja-assembled TRD OR now has over 60k basically troublefree miles. One recall for the crank position sensor, and two TSB’s ... trip meter reset and a transmission programming update. That’s it, not even any bulbs burned out, no leaks, rattles etc. Not a perfect vehicle, but dead reliable and certainly no factory workmanship issues.
