I'm going to check out a 08 access cab 4x4 v6 manual tomorrow evening. Other than frame rust is there anything else I should be looking for? I've been lurking here for a while and the wife drives a 11 4runner that she's put near 200k trouble free miles on so I think I have a pretty good idea but just wanted to make sure I don't miss anything Tacoma specific

Leaks, sludge in the oil fill (would give some indication on whether or not oil changes were neglected), vent hoses on the 4wd actuators, make sure the 4wd works...
Other than that give everything a good lookover for any obvious issues.

Not really, the general consensus seems to be to avoid 05-early build 06 V6's due to higher failure rates of head gaskets and engine mounts and 2012 v6's due to higher failure rates of the Secondary Air Injection System (which only 2012-15 V6's had, all 2.7L trucks have it)

DM93, if all 2012--2015 have this secondary air injection system, why is it that 2012 is the only model of concern?

13-15's do a "shutdown purge" where they open the valves and run the air pump a couple seconds on engine shutdown the clear moisture from the lines and valves, 12's do not.
They still have issues with the SAIS system but much less often than 2012's

@Dm93 You are on point about the SAIS. I just wanted to include a few other resources concerning the SAIS. @jda1981 If any of the other vehicles you run across have SAIS issues please do not hesitate to contact us.

Well I found a 2015 access cab 4x4 V6 auto. Can’t pick it up until Monday but I’m pretty excited about it.
