    Hello all,

I am having a tough time deciding on what bed cover to get, and I may have made it harder on myself yet. I recently purchased a new OEM bed extender for $140. I am not sure how much I would use it for its intended purpose; however, I like the idea of using it as a divider of sorts, and would like to have the option to use more of the bed if needed.

That said, from some poking around on here it appears I may run into some issues pairing this accessory with many tonneau covers. Currently I am looking primarily at the Truxedo lo pro, but have considered expanding my search to some of the BAKflip products, or the Rugged II tri-fold hard top.

Thanks for any help or thoughts.

Further, I would like to be able to keep use of my rails. I don't expect to use the tie downs on them a ton, but want to retain the right to.

I am getting really inconsistent information on these things, so if someone could help, that would be awesome.

The Access Tonneau is a great cover that allows use of the bedrail system. I can’t say how the bed extender would work, no experience. I’ve had this one on 2 different Tacoma’s over about 6-7 combined years. Still holding up great. They’re a great price also. The tonneau uses the bedrail mounting spots and uses spacers to space out the rails about and inch so and mounts between the bedrail and the bed.

Thanks for the info and the pictures. Looks nice - curious if the extender would work. Which model access is that?

I’ll have to look at my paperwork. I don’t remeber off hand which one it is. There’s a low profile one, but I don’t think that allows use of the bedrail. Looks awesome, but I use the bedrail often. I’ll get back when I figure out which one this is.

I have a G4 Fold-a-Cover as it allows use of factory bed rails after installation. I also use an extender as a divider.

I have the Bakflip and I really like it. It does use the bed rails for mounting. I put L track all around the perimeter of the bed floor and that works great for tieing down cooler, tires, and other light stuff. I have Dodge D rings for tieing down an ATV.

The cool thing about the Bakflip is that you can fold it all the way up vertical against the back of the cab and drive down the road. Not all folding tonneau covers can do that.

I know this thread has been around a little bit but was researching for a hard cover/bed extender/bed rail combination that would work for a recently purchased 2020 Tacoma Double Cab 5' bed. Settled on an AMP Research Bed Extender HD Sport #74802-01A (which from what I have read is identical in shape and size to the OEM extender) and an Extang Encore hard cover #62830.
The set up allows the use of both together as well as the use of the bed rails and tie downs.

When you install the tonneau cover you remove the bed rails, install brackets into the mounting holes. A drain rail is attached to the brackets as are the OEM bed rails just below the drain rail. You still have use of the bed rails but they are positioned a little lower than their original location.
