    Edit mistake:
What Toyota motors will attach to the automatic
    A340E (30-40LE)?

I have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma with 3RZ-fE and automatic transmission. I want a Toyota motor swap that will connect to the automatic transmission. I'm seeking Toyota motors that will attach with either a bell-housing or an adapter but does not require a new driveshaft. Any motor other than the 3.4 L 5VZ-FE V6 because it is my last choice.

Fwiw, w59 is the manual transmission behind the 2/3rz. A340 is the auto behind the 2/3rz, 5vz, and 2uz.

Why is the 5VZ-FE your last choice?

I was curious about the motors producing 250 or more horsepower and which would attach to the A340.

    Dear JP2,

Are you more inclined to go with the second generation Tacoma 4.0 V6. I doubt that will bolt up to your existing transmission.

    Good Luck,
    Paul

My intent is to only pay for the installation of a motor that will bolt up using a bell housing and produce 250 horsepower or more.

    Jp2,

So you have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma with the 3RZ motor, and the A340 automatic transmission. I hate to be the one to tell you, but you have limited engine choices if you want to continue to use your existing transmission.

    Take it easy,
    Paul

Forget it. Only motor that checks some of those boxes is the early non vvti 2uzfe but it will require moving back your trans (amongst a million other things) to fit in. Look into boost instead

It appears like the following would work with the corresponding bell housing.

    "A340E (30-40LE)
The detachable bell housing, which attaches the main transmission case to the engine, has an engine-specific bolt pattern, which appears on its upper surface as cast-in letters. "J" indicates the straight-6 1/2-JZ engine, "U" the V8 UZ engine.

    Applications:

    1 2 3 4 Rev
    2.804 1.531 1 0.705 2.393

Well if you're really into it, Chrysler used the A340 series trannies as AX-4s in Cherokees too. But I think you're barking up the wrong tree here. The motors producing more than 240HP don't commonly use the A340. The Tundy did for a bit but that's really about it and you'll still spend twice the cost of a new transmission in fabrication of motor mounts, tranny cross members, and new drivelines. Not to mention the wiring and work to adapt a different evaporative emissions system (needed to pass vehicle registration in many states) Believe me there is NO easy drop in and mate it up solution to your question. It isn't even easy to swap an auto 4cyl to a manual because so much of the frame structure and wiring changes on a year by year basis. I'm doing a body, engine, tranny, wiring swap right now... there is no easy peasy cheap way to do it. It will cost thousands if you don't already have a few free donor trucks and all the new expendable shit like gaskets and various parts the give you trouble.

If you can find an early 03-04 4.0L from a 4Runner they had the A340 bolted to it. Not sure of HP specs tho.

if you're doing an engine swap having to lenghten/shorten the driveshafts is a pretty small thing compared to all of the other work required.

    Can one swap a 3vz, backed by an a340e, with a 3rz. Easier than a 5vz?

It won't be easier that's for sure. The a340e isn't exactly desirable to keep either, or the hydro t case. The 5vz bolts right in place of a 3vz though. The 3rz mounts are different both engine mount wise and bell housing wise
