No ghey chrome. Nice. That trim in MGM or pyrite mica would look pretty sweeeet.

It's great... until you have to replace the windshield lol.
I just had to replace mine this morning because it cracked all the way across yesterday *sigh*.

I'm willing to bet the Tacoma doesn't have it. I've not seen it advertised on any trim. Look up replacement costs though. I don't think any windshield is worth a $700+ replacement cost lol. My mother had one replaced at one point in her old highlander. So many other cool mods that could be done instead. Sooo many mods.

For a basic truck will the SR5 package on a double cab 4x4 be about right money wise?

What I meant was will The SR5 package be the best way to go if someone wants to save money but still get good options on the truck.

A SB will work fine with a 29er (using a fork mount bracket.) Depending on your frame size you might have to turn it to one side slightly but mine fits fine with the tailgate up.

My 29" MTB bike needs the long bed if I keep the wheels on in the bed and want the tailgate to close. I have a shell over the bed too to protect my golden retrievers. I have the SR5 trim 4x4, works great in snow and can't see why you'd need any TRD for just snowy roads.

I was thinking the same thing. Lots of people who benefit from having a truck with a 4cyl or 2wd. Mine is 2wd. I don't need 4x4. I've been through snow and trails and still don't need it. I needed a truck for hauling stuff and towing. Where I go 2wd does this just fine. Also plenty of people who need to make the occasional haul do just fine with the 4cyl and get a tad bit better mpg.

But back to OP. Depending on how much snow you get, it may benefit you to go with 4x4. I may get 5-6 inches per year so mine handles it just fine with good tires. As other's have said, if you don't want to deal with taking the front wheel off the bike, I'd go with the long bed. You don't really need the sport package if you just want 4wd and long bed. You can go with the SR5 package for a little cheaper.

Actually none of the things you listed require a truck. So why are you buying a truck ?

    ^He'll try to make sure you don't buy a 2016. Don't listen.

In addition to what others have said comes on the TRD Sport package, you also get the beefed-up electronic limited-slip differential.

Using a tailgate pad on my double cab short bed a 26" downhill bike and a 650b fit perfectly. Haven't tried a 29er but I feel it would fit just fine, and at the very least you could have it at an angle.

Looking at the leaked 4x4 price sheet...

    DCSB SR5 v6 (FE) - $31,575
    DCSB SR5 V6 (FE,SN) - $32,455
    DCSB V6 Sport (FE) - $33,760

I'm not sure what the SR5 appearance package (SN) entails, but just comparing the FE packages, lets get some opinions on whether or not Sport is worth the extra ~$2,200? GO.

In my 8 driving years I've always had a 250. 90% of the time I drive to and from work/school in the city and on the high way. The other 10% of the time I use it for relatively minor things like towing (some over capacity for a mid-sized though), a lot of bed hauling, some off the road work on farms/ranches, and hunting. The few times I use it as a truck, I easily surpass the capability of a 4-cyl and a 2WD. Maybe I use mine more than the average joe or over estimate what I need to get the job done and need to go easier on the 2WDs and 4-cyls.

I still don't feel you can do truck things with a 4-cyl. My mom's new Subaru doesn't even handle hilly roads that well. Probably wouldn't hook a trailer with much weight to it without fear smoke is going to start pouring out the hood lol.

OP has to decide what he'll use it for. Also, OP, gotta understand you get a truck and all of a sudden all your buddies need you to pick something up or move something LOL. Always happens.

I just plan to use a hitch mount bike rack and free up the bed space. Only problem I can potentially see is transporting the bikes in the pouring rain. Nothing a nice cleaning up couldn't solve, though.

again, thanks for all the replies. keep them coming. :)

so anyway, definitely a DC 4x4! still undecided on LB or SB; 4cyl or V6; TRD Sport or SR5.

    ---

TL;DR (below)... i want (need actually) to do more outdoor healthy activities! truck ftw! \m/

and to answer BlueT as i think it's a fair question. im thinking of getting a truck coz i intend to do more outdoor physical activities (around Tahoe ftw!!) ie. mountain biking, s.u. paddle boarding, kayaking among other things. basically a sudden lifestyle change dictated by health - i need to stay active and be fit. i can't really do any gym/weight lifting stuff as i already had a minor surgery (hernia) due to it and was advised not to anymore. i think having a truck will make it a lot easier (to bring gears) and enjoyable (bring along more friends) for me over my current '10 subaru forester (no hitch, no rack) which i honestly think i've grown out of already. but we'll see! like i said, im in no rush to purchase and who knows what the future entails. ...and also, my forester is going to the shop for some minor cosmetic repair (prepping it for sale/trade... maybe?!? lolz). it made for a good excuse to start looking at other cars. and a truck is making more and more sense to me. :D

Thanks for the Price sheet numbers that helps give me a heads up on where the trim levels stand price wise.

Not to go off topic here but why?
I had a hernia repair done several years ago and it has not taken me from my powerlifting endeavors. Same for my father who had a weight lifting related hernia and had that repaired 20 years ago. Heck my dad benches and squats more than I do.
I've had no problems with pain or pressure when lifting after healing from the surgery. Mine was open too, not with a scope. Dad had a scope.

I hate to say it, but if you don't plan on doing "truck stuff" like towing or off roading, I think you're better staying with a forester, honestly. Lower cost of ownership, better MPGs, better ride, and more convenience options (power everything). With a nice roof rack and/or basket set up you'll have more Sq-ft than a taco with long bed for all of your outdoor activities.
