Gasoline is currently < $1.90 a gallon locally for 87 octane, too.

Wow. That's great. If you moved to CA. You would have a heart attack with all the taxes collected here.

I did the same. Renewal was due 11/30 for $498 and if I sold by truck by then, I would buy a new one. My 2018 TAX, oh sorry, licence FEE was $605. :censored:

Add a shell - DMV will reclassify as an SUV which drops the commercial designation (and weight penalty). Did mine in 2010, been saving $$ ever since. Can't pull that shell off with those plates though.

Call for an appointment to get it inspected. They'll verify it's "permanently" (clamped) attached and process a new registration & plates. I coudn't believe this was true until after I was on hold and the operator asked "when would you like to come in?" NOW!!

The commercial weight penalty fee is waived since it will now become a passenger vehicle. Every other fee remains, unfortunately. The first year alone, it saved $200.

Dang that is pretty cool to know. Sucks you have to get a new plate. They can't just switch over old plates?

What if I literals just paid my registration last week? I wouldn't have to pay another registration fee would I?

You'd have to ask them about your recent payment but the plate switch is mandatory (there's a different alpha/numerical sequence between passenger & commercial vehicles).

    It cost more to renew?

Again, it cost more to renew?

This is the way it should be, pay taxes when you buy, unlike here in Maine we pay taxes on the assumed value every year but it does go down a little for like 5 years, then it levels out. 3 times registering has run me about 2300 bucks plus the original sales tax when I bought it.

Well, I get screwed somewhat. My daughter drives the Wrangler and is establishing residency in Pa. They told her she can't drive MY Ohio licensed vehicle once she gets a Pa. drivers licence. That vehicle is in my name only!!!!! Basically I am 'lending' her my car to use as she gets settled in with a new job. I called Penn Dot and the woman was an arrogant asshole!!! "That's our law" "I can't send you the info - look it up on our website"......But it isn't owned by her - it is in my name...."too bad". Got a headache trying to read the beaurocratic (spp?) bullshit. So my recently paid for registration - only $39 or whatever is for nothing. Have to pay the vehicle off and transfer ownership to her, more $$. Can't be insured on my multi policy set up, so she will pay higher insurance rates. Has to go through Pa. annual inspections, too.
On the plus side, the woman at our local court house (title bureau) said I can gift it to my daughter and not have to pay any sales tax in Ohio or in Pa. when she re-registers it there.

Buy her a broken down piece of crap, have her go through the proper channels to make it legal in PA, then continue to lend her you vehicle until she can get hers fixed. Sometimes it’s better to not research, but when you do, find the way to play in the lines. I don’t understand how they can say anything about her using your vehicle, I would think that is up to you.
