For minicomputers it was TACCS that were basically hardened Burroughs B26s minis that ran BTOS and CTOS.

I think after that it was Zenith, those dual floppies that ran DOS. If you were a general or something we configured a 20 meg drive & a 286 processor lol no booting by floppy for the VIPs.

Commodore 128- Man I coulda tore that thing apart just waiting for the disk to load.
Didn't take me long to go and buy an Apple II computer.

For those of us old enough to remember internet speeds of something like 12-28kps and AOL as one of the highest rated providers. Minutes to load a screen and heaven forbid you wanted to look at a picture.
Lots of chat rooms though, LOL.

Apple II/c with only one drive, so I had to flip over the disc. I had some really weird games. One was a game where you had to shoot the ground and make enemies fall in the pit, then walk over the top so the ground would fill in and bury them alive. Funniest part was there was an elevator with a sign on it that said "OSHA" that you could walk under and it would crush you.
Also had a damn tough Conan game. I couldn't figure out why he had a magical banana until mom explained it was a boomerang.
The best game was Gladiator, but I had a bad copy. I wore the paint off the Control, Open Apple, and Restart keys.

Later went to a 386, then a 486 DX-II. I broke the 486 many times (I'm sorry, but I had to know what ALL of those icons did in Windows 3.1)

Dad got a Pentium 90 from the Intel employee discount for something like $2,700. We were blown away by CDs, speakers, games that spoke to you, animated games, and choppy video. Windows 95 was a complete revolution, and the Weezer music video made us speechless. We got some free software with the computer and I played the shit out of Putt-Putt Goes to the Moon even though I was 14.

The P90 had a 14.4k modem so I was one of the speedier folks... when you could actually get connected. I was the first kid in school to be online

Did anyone else play Duke Nukem 3D over parallel port or a modem connection?

"OK, I'm about to host, hang up and dial in"
    "OK"
(hang up, rush to computer... time passes)
    "Hey, why didn't you connect?"
"Because you dumped the server and %^%$^ dialed me on your damn phone as I was connecting!!"
