I had an 83 Shelby Charger essentially the same car with a lot more plastic bolted on and more expensive tires. Broke clutch cable every week and eventually ran it a little warm and cracked the head( you could feel the crack with your fingernails so more than a little).

Was a great little car. 20R engine, 5-speed, I bought it with about 130K on it and sold it with about 175K on it. You don't see Celicas of this vintage on the roads anymore.

Uh... most of this was before camera phones and tracking down personal pictures is nearly impossible. Thank God for Google, at least you get an image. Not just a description and have to go to Google and look it up.

    Just getting started.
1980 Datsun 310 Hatchback, 4MT repainted silver with blue interior and an 8 track deck. Engine blew on my birthday en route to a ballgame. I really loved that little car.

No picture unfortunately but my first ride was a red 1965 Corvair Monza 2 door hardtop with the motor in the trunk and 2 carbs. It had white walls and full hubcaps and was in extremely nice condition inside and out. My uncle sold us the car and he viewed himself as being a horse trader of sorts. My dad just assumed he would be honest but assumed wrong. When I took the car in to have a front-end alignment, they told me the frame was gone between the front wheels and that was why they looked so far out of alignment.
I didn't keep the car long anyway after a semi tried to run us down when one of my buddy's in the back seat thought it would be funny to flip off the truck driver who was behind us. They were screaming at me to go faster with that semi being inches off my back bumper. I had it to the floor but the semi was faster. I sold the car and bought a 67 Fairlane with a 289 in it. With friends like that I needed something faster.

Grandad's ol '87 Ford Ranger for $300. Drove it about 6 months in high school until I got rear ended by a 50 y/o lady in a Chrysler Sebring. Totaled. I cried for my loss. It was a shitty truck but it was my shitty truck and I loved it. It burned oil and the fuel guage didn't work but I didn't care. It used to have a camper shell and my cousins/siblings and I would ride for hours in the back on camping trips, etc. Good times, good memories.

    It looked like this one.

My first vehicle was a 1977 Toyota pickup. My father bought it for me as soon as I got my license.
It had a manual transmission, I didn't know how to drive manual and I taught t myself on that truck. It wasn't in the best shape being an older Toyota and living in the Northeast.
I also thought myself how to work on cars with that truck. The book "How to keep your Toyota alive" was invaluable.

Heck of a story, RL, and your uncle is quite a guy. The first car I bought was a royal blue metalic '60 Corvair, that was in '62. I really like that thing, three on the floor, very quick off the line. Fine heater, too. I traded that for a brand new 1964 Ford Fairlane with a 289 just as the '65 model came out, forest green with a white vinyl top. Went overseas for an enjoyable time while my sister drove it. She ended up keeping it. I returned, went to college and drove a '60 VW Bug, slow off the line and a bad heater. Kind of a big circle with some wrinkles. No pictures, I have no 'Kokak Moment'.

I learned to drive in a '76 Duster with the slant 6. It was old and rusty; I managed to kill it (ruined the rear end) trying to do burnouts.
