    WTF does "early reliability" mean?
You're :rasta: off marketing material at best

Reliability - the quality of being trustworthy or of performing consistently well
These two attributes are a function of time
4G hasn't been around long enough to prove anything, except its ugly

    2nd gen = best gen :)
    3rd gen = terd gen :D
    4th gen = has a 4 banger so o_O

In an attempt to get this thread back on topic.. the 3rd gen 4 cylinder natural aspirated (2TR-FE) is arguably one of the most reliable Toyota motors in the last 20 years. There's plenty of 2nd and 3rd gen examples with over 300k miles. The 2.7L 2TR-FE was used in 2nd and 3rd gen Tacos between 2004-2023.

I'd own one but wanted the extra ponies of the 3.5L V6.

I almost bought one, but the ability to tow overrode that choice. My 2nd Gen was a 2.7, and while slow, was more fun to drive than my 3rd Gen 3.5.

The brutal wear that the 4 banger takes on a truck? That’s weird- the 4 banger Tacoma is the most reliable Tacoma engine ever period. Please stop with your nonsense because you have some ridiculous idea that your 3.5 is some legendary reliable engine. It’s a horrible setup especially if it’s an automatic. Hence the years and years of people discussing the hunting issues and having to tune the truck.
The manual is much better but it’s not even in the same league as the 4G.

Buyers remorse? I’m over here in shock people are so fooled by the “NA V6” nonsense and are paying over sticker for used trucks when you can buy a brand new 4G right now for very close.
The turbos in all of my vehicles have been extremely reliable . Goes for diesels, and larger turbos in the faster vehicles.
    You guys are nuts

I’ve owned 3rd gen’s, this is a forum. If the 3G was priced reasonably on the used market you wouldn’t hear me complain. People are paying 4G prices right now for 3Gs it’s wild

Early reliability = early production of the new 4G

I’m on Tacoma #11, this is my 5th 3rd gen. I usually get a new vehicle every 6 months, just traded in my 2024 Golf R. I considered the 4th gen, but…

However, I’m relieved you’re concerned about our money and what we paid.

    Best of luck

Why do you care so much about what other random people are paying for their trucks?

The thing is.. this isn't your typical car/truck forum. It's more of a community than the vast majority of forums regardless of topic. If someone keeps shitting in this thread it'll be time for a mod to do some clean up and ban hammering.

What's nuts is you touting the ultimate reliability of this engine over the other Tacoma's, despite it's only been in the Taco for like 1.5 years...if that.

I'd like a source proving this. Otherwise...theres still this tall cold glass of STFU for you. ;)

I personally would not sell mine for under 40k, its a 2022 TRD OR with the premium package in blue crush color and 25k mi. but the market is different in other areas

I just bought my truck 2 weeks ago in the North East.

2021 TRD Sport, Cement Gray, leather interior/heated seats and back up alarm, 1 owner and very clean, 25k miles for $39,500.

I spent a month looking and this was a fair deal for all the options I specifically wanted. I found 3-4 others in that time and they all sold within 24-48 hrs, so I jumped on this one and am very pleased with it so far.

ETA: It was stock except for the previous owner put on a set of 265/65/17 KO2's, so there was that value as well.

2021, TRD Off-Road - 32,900 miles, $36,000 - car was sitting on lot for over 100 days traded in for a Nissan something or other. I got $2000 off their asking price, and they dropped all the BS markups except the pesky dealer doc fee....I am new to Tacoma, but think the TRD OR trim is pretty snazzy and no idea what the original MSRP was for the truck

What a downer of a post about the great 4 gen pickup! Go rain on someone else's parade! I have no interest in a 4 gen, but that isn't the point of this thread, and I don't give a rat's ass what you think about anything, trucks or otherwise. I bought a 3rd gen, and I love it. I can't imagine being so negative about what someone else purchased and is clearly happy about. Still a bachelor, I'm guessing, and sharing that nice new truck with NOBODY. Have fun, you loser. Ha!

Original MSRP was probably mid 40's or better.
