I like the 3rd gen, owned one for a few years but they are way too overpriced right now there is no value. Jump to 4th gen IMO

Yeah but yours is a 4banger. You paid way too much for a 4banger.

It’s better in every single way over the 3rd gen and it’s not really close. I bet it lasts very long as well. Owned plenty of turbos well into 200k miles, always reliable.

Bought in February my 2018 doublecab longbed from a Toyota dealership for $25K listed as $29K. Only 56K miles. Some minor scrapes that I've fixed already but overall in very good condition.

Paid a lot of it with the proceeds I got from insurance. My 02 Tacoma with 202Kmiles as posted in the first gen forum was totaled when a tourist ran into my truck. I bought that truck new for $12K. The insurance company wrote me a check for $10.5K. So, I essentially paid $1500 for that truck that I owned for 23 years!

Sure but interesting to see people pay more than new for an inferior product

Damn son. Your confidence levels are in the shaitter. You're ok and your truck is a fine choice.

I don't pretend to be an expert in vehicles and their mechanics, but I do know for a fact that the first 1-2, sometimes 1-3 years of a NEW generation of a vehicle have ALL the problems of that generation. We saw this with 3rd gen and before. We saw it with the new Tundra's and we're seeing it now with the 4th Gen taco.

So, you're shitting on people for buying a 3rd Gen for "lots of $$", meanwhile you bought the very first of this Gen, which also happens to be the most expensive iteration of this truck yet, complete with all the issues they are working through. What's that say about your choice?

I'm sure you're proud of yourself and all. Certainly seems like it, but maybe now is the time to just have a tall cold glass of STFU.

I'm a current 4G SR5 owner, but looking at 3G trucks. They are spendy right now - almost as much as a new 4G up here in the PNW. But there are things about the 3G that i just like a lot more than my current 4G. I'm eyeing a '23 TRD OR and the dealer wants as much for it as a new one but the truck is truly as close to new as you could likely find these days. There are definitely some gives and takes, but overall I think I'm going to prefer the simpler 3G. I'll update my post if I get one.

This is exactly the truck I have and the reason I got it is specifically because it is your classic "simple truck" and the last of that Gen, meaning it's the "best" version of this generation. Standard v6, gas only, low amounts of expensive tech, easy and cheap(er) to work on.

Nothing is really cheap these days, so the whole overall purchase cost issue to me goes out the window. The new truck is far more expensive trim for trim. Pound for pound, I imagine the new truck will be more difficult and expensive to work on. Especially with the newer tech, hybrid engines and the dreaded 4cyl Turbo (gross). The EV market and push is not convincing to me at all. The tech is just not there for the batteries and etc. After owning a 4cyl turbo and learning what happens to turbo engines as they start to get miles on them...I'll never get another.

Well, they must be in demand. Started the online process this morning with SmartPath to see what kind of discounts the dealer might offer, get the trade in value on my existing '24, and look at the deal online. But then I get an email saying they sold the truck yesterday.
Found a really nice SR5 this afternoon. Local, one owner truck with low miles, lots of maintenance records according to the CarFax, and its a CPO at a local dealer and not overpriced. If this worked out per their Smartpath pricing app, I'd actually get back money from the dealer, which would pay for some mods that I want. Kicking that one around since I really don't need an OR as the extent of my off roading is just an occasional fire road.

the 2017 was always considered the most reliable Tacoma. My truck is actually a 2025, not a 2024- yes I did wait the year for better pricing + issues.

the 4G tacoma has actually had great early reliability besides the first month of a few issues they quickly resolved. I liked my 3G manual but it’s not where near the truck my 4G is.

People are absolutely insane paying new + prices in a horrible car market for 3G Tacoma’s. The 4G is such a massive upgrade.
The 3G has a mini van motor and is a dog. The automatic (i owned one) is truly a horrific driving experience i have no idea how people stand it.

the manual was very good just no where near the 4G in every single way.
