What winter tires are you running?

We shall see.. midcoast Maine gets odd winter weather combos that you dont get inland... lots of slush, bit of freezing rain... as long as i can get in and out of my driveway, and 8 miles to and from work without hassle.. the aggressive tread is nice too.. kind of a M/T hybrid.. I plan to run about 250-300lbs of weight in the bed anyways.

Just got a set of the General Grabber Arctic tires. Don't have any input though because it's still to warm out to put them on. But, I bought them from a Subaru store, and was able to get two rebates on them.

 

I’ve been happy with my Yokohama Ice Guards. Three winters and they have 9-10 32nds tread left.

I have used these (General Artic Max) on cars for a few years. They made my Corolla go places it should not have gone. They routinely rate higher than all other snow tires, but most still go with Michelins or Bridgestone.

I am an absolute tire snob, but these things deliver even if they are not a cool brand.

Remember for snow tall-skinny works way better than fat, unless you are trying to float on powder.

 

I tried to get the Blizzaks this week at Discount Tire in 265/75/16 and they told me they were not available. I ended up with the Cooper Discoverer M&S. They were $200 cheaper than the Blizzaks but performance is TBD. We got snow last night but the roads were still clear so no formal test yet. I may take them up the mountains this weekend and do a little snowy off roading.

 

Yeah yeah, rub it in. At least I don’t have to deal with hurricanes lol

For whatever crazy reason, the generally weaksauce stock Toyos did really well in the record snows that we had here last winter. They surprised me because of their marginal wet traction.

Going off of what folks have said about the Wildpeaks esp @Shellshock with the pics he posted, I can only expect better. They are certainly a big improvement in the wet and dry.

If I lived in the great white north where snow is on the ground for months at a time and ice is a real issue, I might do something different.

 

I have the Arctics on my GC and on my GTI. And I have Blizzaks on the wife's Impreza.

Skinny is your friend. I went with 245s.

 

Blizzaks here in BC Interior, they are going on their 8th season and still amazing in the snow..

 

I have been very happy with my Goodyear Duratracs for an all season tire. However they aren't as good as true snow tires. I have had (on cars) general altimax articmax on my very low 08 Scion xB and that was going places it shouldn't have as well as plowing many roads with more than 4" of snow. haha My wifes fusion we have had a set of goodyears ultragrip wrt (better than an all season but hardly good for a snow tire) and now some Nokian Hakkapalittattattatta 9's. The nokians are killer tires! I will likely put them on every car I own in the future. Look where Nokian is based out of...snow is their main season. haha

 

I initially ran the Cooper AT/W's and they were decent the first winter, second winter I found they weren't cutting it on ice. I switched up to Hak 9's. These things are like a cat on a screen door, unbelievable control on the road, and very good in deep snow too. I was worried about the noise, but I found them to be no big deal.

 

Blizzaks going on my third winter. Trust me you won't be disappointed.These tires are only to used when the outdoor air is less than 45 Fahrenheit due to the soft rubber compound. My .02

 

Another one for Blizzaks - I run their DM-V2 on the Tacoma and WS80's on the Subaru. Both are excellent and have been wearing well, and aren't any noisier. It's not just about the lug design or siping, but the actual material compound. A true winter tire stays soft in cold weather and handles snow and ice (braking!) while other tires get hard as a rock - think of a hockey puck on ice.

For all my vehicles I pick up a cheap set of steel wheels for them. It's a very small capital investment which actually prolongs your tire life. You can run your summers down a little further since you won't be using them during the winter...

 

Just bought a set of Blizzak DMV2s and had them put on some SR5 rims I got off of craigslist. Haven’t hung them on the Tacoma yet, but I won’t wait much longer because...Wisconsin.

 

I would probably be running Blizzaks if it weren't for all the chinooks we get here in Calgary mid-winter - figured the consistent warm weather would eat through the compound pretty fast. Currently running Michelin Xice. No complaints thus far.

 

I use Toyo WLT1 Awesome winter tires.

 

I have been running Yokohamas fore 15 years , on full size trucks, AWD suv, sub compact cars...

and now on My taco, great tires for Quebecs horrible icy winters

 

Another vote for Cooper M+S. My BFG ATko’s and Tacoma Pro Wheels will hibernate this year. Plus the BFG are not too hot in the wet/cold/snow.

Running them on 2005 Tundra 5 spoke wheels.

These are uncommon wheels and offset jut like the TRD Tacoma Pro Wheels.
