What wiring is this for? Help

Does all look good before i solder? Can i connect battery and turn on to test before solder?

 

Just make sure the connection is good before testing and you know what fuse it is on nice work cleaning that rat mess up BTW

Yea it looks good. I would tape up those wires where the taps where just so nothing comes into contact. Then tap the harness up once you’re done. You didn’t need to disconnect the battery but better to be safe than sorry. But yes double check it starts up before you get it all back together just to be sure

 

that I can not tell you since I do not know what that wire is for (I rely on wire diagrams for everything myself) just saying have a simple tester ready to check fuses in event of further issue

This fucking solder gun sucks! Im so done!

 

Looks like cold solder. Let the tip get hot. Put a little solder on the tip. Rest the tip firmly against the wires. Then push the solder into the tip. The wiring should start to suck it up. Once it does start feeding the solder into the wiring

Also what kind of cable did you use to extend that wire?

I have enough wire. Going to cut and redo the job with my dad's gun. Does not start after twisting wires. Dont want to solder if its not starting up this way. Seems only but connector works

 

It’s an older ignition switch, that uses higher current than modern setups. You will need a solid connection in order for it to start. Also copper wire vs aluminum would be a better choice, as it’s about 40% more conductive.

 

Nothing, but trash in this house. Finally got starter to start with wiring the two wires but this dam heat gun isnt working to heat wire. Im doing it just like i saw on youtube on proper way to solder. Im so irritated.

You don’t have enough heat. Use a higher amperage soldering gun, and let the wire melt the solder. Dip the wires in rosin flux.

That being said I wouldn’t use solder on heavy gauge wires like that. That’s a good candidate for a butt connector. I only solder on small gauge wires, like 20GA+

 

If you have a small butane torch or something you can use that as well. Just be careful not to burn anything else or the truck down lol

 

No torch. Omg finally even with little slack left car starts now with butt connector. Bought some with heat shrink bundled to it. Now back to having no power. Thank god

Haha reading back my comment made me laugh. Timper timper... thanks man. Lesson learned. Can't solder starter wire. Too thick. Maybe with a professional solder gun, but not the ones I have.
