I have been searching market place in south florida and find that people are selling their toppers for about an average price of $2000. I think thats outrageous, but I wanted to get some insight on what a good price point would be for a used leer, are, sungtop or any other brand topper.

also, are there any other good selling/buying sites for parts?

What does the local cap dealer sell used and clearance in stock caps for? That's probably the going rate.

A new, fully loaded, Leer canopy retails for over $4,000. So yeah, $2,000 used seems outrageous but it’s way cheaper than buying new. I just sold one in two days for $2,000 and had a dozen people asking about it.

That’s fair. How can I tell how fully loaded a Leer topper is? The descriptions are extremely vague. Just because it has a carpet inside of it doesn’t mean it’s fully loaded is it?

In my experience the bigger dealers like Leer and Snugtop don't do clearance on caps, they have no problem selling these things

    Out here 4k is normal

From your experience as leer owners, the cap is completely watertight?

Also, can I just get another short bed truck topper if I’m lucky enough to find one on Facebook marketplace? Like a Colorado or a Ranger for example?

    No, and no.

No cap is watertight without a lot of prep work before and after installation. You need to make a really good seal along the bed rails and some people even seal below the plastic bed rail covers as well. Then be willing to use some sort of RTV to seal up any remaining gaps.

Other short beds may be the same length but the shape of the bed and how it mates with the cab and tailgate will be different.

Nothing is completely watertight. The Leer has that "gutter" lip that hangs down over the bed and it really does help but.. water will still get in somewhere.

Every cap ive owned that had side wind-doors leaked through sides.

I paid 4k for a fancy Alu-cab and it leaked through every. Single. Fuckin. Door and window..

My last XQ Leer leaked through the brake light from the minute I brought it home

Granted I'm driving up to the ski hill in rainstorms frequently during winter but still.. it was frustrating to pay thousands and still have wet gear when I got up into the mountains

It was a combination of the water intrusion and the overall weight that made me move on from fiberglass caps. Now I've got a Softopper and I'm digging how light it is, cant even feel it back there. The truck is more nimble and fun to drive without 200+ lbs in the bed all the time. Yes I know its not secure and it'll certainly leak when the rain comes back this fall.. but for now the light weight and cheap cost (600 bucks on CL new-in-box) is making it worth it for me

That's how the local dealers advertise their in stock and used inventory. I think it's mostly trade ins or where ever they get used inventory from, and new clearance is probably something ordered and never got purchased. No they aren't great deals prices are still in the thousands. Finding an in stock MGM cap that fits Mr. Squatches needs probably isn't going to happen. That's just where I'd look as to pricing.

Half off a new one; sounds about right. Condition is the big driver for me if I were to ever buy one. Concerning them being watertight; a frog's ass is watertight!

I bought a used Leer XQ lb for $900, I ended up having to repair reapply the rear glass seal, 3rd brake light mount/gasket, fiddling endlessly with the funky/finicky frameless rear hatch latches and lock, and a very hard to find pop-out window crank. I got it all done over time, but it was a PITA and time waster because the design of this mechanisms is inherently fragile. I would never buy a frameless glass Leer again. And the ventilation sucked, you cannot screen the pop outs against bugs effectively. The MGM color did not match, but was a decent complement to silver.

    Inside 3rd brake light leaks

"Auto locking" rear latch, never even bothered installing the wiring because the mechanism was so unreliable.

This was a lesson in "keep it simple, stupid"

After being fed up with the sleek, impractical, fragile, non-color-matched experiment, I got what I really needed for supporting roof racks, bikes/gear, and access.

Leer 100RCC with windoors, screened sliders, simple classic lockable latches, and LED light bars front and back.

The windoors are a total gamechanger for heavy multiday roadtripping loadouts when towing and in general.

Zero leaks. I caulked to two front bed wall seams. I added a dust seal under the plastic cap rails.

That was $3300 before tax in 2018. I puckered, I paid, I dont' regret it. Even thought Leer installed the back door sicker offcenter. Which almost gave me an aneurism before I scraped it off. Fucktards.

If you really want one, and the going Ask is $2000, then that sounds like the price, doesn't it?
