take that grand...and the cash from selling all the bolt-on parts from your current truck...and go buy you a new (or newer) truck with the V6.

If you have to make payments...it's OK because you are a coal miner. If not, find you a coal miners daughter with a hit record and she can buy you a new truck. :D

After all that, OP, for the kind of tire your aiming at, a re-gear would help the most, cost the most, but it will get your engine back into it's power (rpm) range and give you back some acceleration. Not going to gain a lot of power with bolt on's now a days.

At the end of the day, put nitrous on it and be done.

Your best bet, within a $1k budget, would be to re gear. You're looking at like 300 for gears, and 300 for labor, then you can sell your gears fairly quickly for 200 since they will fit right into a trd sport or any other tacoma without an e locker, and alot of guys are lifted looking to get 4:10's (myself included) since it gets the power back and doesnt really effect mpgs; and be all said and done at 400 give or take a couple bucks. If I were you I'd go with 4:88's, that way you can run up to 315's and be good. The reg cabs have a substantial amount of clearance and can fit those tires rather easily without a 6" lift. Plan for the future. If you're driving up the interstate for 50 miles one way to work, 4:56's are going to be better, although I don't think there will be a major gas mileage decrease between 4:56's and 4:88's... Especially with the 2.7, you should still be around 18-20 mpg avg. also, if you haven't done so, remove your secondary air filter. I noticed a small gain when I did it on my reg cab, it was enough to not have to shift down to maintain 70mph on the highway going thru hills which was nice, truck will also get better mpgs and sound a little deeper. No sense in a CAI, since gains are minimal and they don't actually bring in any cooler air than the stock intake, fact. There is some other small stuff here and there but I basically laid it out for you here. The power loss with 285's on my reg cab was not that bad since it already had 4;10's, I'd wait til you get the bigger tires and decide then.

Mike Im going to try to ask a question that is readable. My real problem is just in first gear taking off.I have pretty decent accelaration when I get rolling.Just worder if regearing would give me what Im looking for on take off.

Also, if your truck is a 2009 or newer, you need to do the yellow wire mod!! Big help off road. If you're not familiar with it, I'll explain it to you. Basically you cut the yellow wire going into the 4wd Ecu behind the glovebox, it tricks the truck into thinking its not going into 4lo this able to keep trac on in 4lo. What this does, is stops tires that don't have traction and turns the ones with traction, similar to lockers, but trac uses the abs system which is cool, since its easier to replace brakes than gears. Your 4lo light will flash when your in 4lo but it will still engage, and will still beep if it does not engage. It wasn't a big deal for me that the light blinked, since it was a great mod to have when off road or in the snow (NE winters). I pulled a car out of the ditch with it once, felt like I was in a 3/4 ton

Yes it would. If you geared down, it's actually going to affect first gear the most. You will notice higher rpms at higher gears but that just because of the lower gear ratio. People who re gear to like 5:29's and up into the 6's are using their trucks for pulling or torque, in which the gear they need to be most powerful is first.
